All these companies want to come into your home to DEMONSTRATE their product.

Why do they do everything they can to get in front of you?

They know that if they can demonstrate their product you are much more likely to make a purchase.

Week before last we saw as Paul stated clearly the biggest threat to the Church: Be not conformed to this world.

Last week we read as Paul gave us a picture of the Church as a complex living organism that had multiple parts all under the authority of the head (Who is Christ)

This week we see the conclusion of Chapter 12 of Romans as Paul encourages the DEMONSTRATING of our identity in Christ.

In this passage we explore the concept of religious disciplines. (The Law of Christianity)

A. CHRISTIANS BEHAVIOR (9-16)

1. Love (9)

a. It must be without hypocrisy… It must be sincere

That same word in the OT speaks of a helmet which gives us the idea that love that is insincere is a love that leaves us vulnerable.

b. It must also be displayed in the things we hate.

Hate here isn’t about a fierce anger but is about a total rejection.

2. Be kindly affectionate (10)

“Outdo on another in showing honor”
Philippians 2:3 NKJV
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
Ephesians 5:21 NKJV
21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

3. Fervent(11)

Be aglow in the Spirit (Apollos)
Acts 18:25 NKJV
25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John.

4. Rejoicing, patient, prayerful (12)

This is a progressive verse. It speaks to the progression in the living of our faith.
*As believers we must rejoice in our hope.
Colossians 1:27 NKJV
27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
*This will give us patience in our tribulation
*This will create a steadfastness in our lives

5. Caring for saints (13)

This doesn’t discount caring for the unsaved.

Many versions of scripture say share (We saw this in the early Church)

We should have a strong connection to those we sere with

Feed them, forgive them, restore them

6. Blessing our enemies (14)

The prayer for those that have wronged God

7. Sharing joys and sorrows (15)

What a world will ours be when this shall become its reigning spirit! Of the two, however, it is more easy to sympathize with another’s sorrows than his joys, because in the one case he needs us; in the other not. But just for this reason the latter is the more disinterested, and so the nobler.

8. Humble in our relations together (16)

The feeling of the common bond which binds all Christians to each other, whatever diversity of gifts, how they are developed, our attitudes while serving, or gifts we display we are to do all these together.

Now you may say these should come naturally as they should but the next will not.
Most New Testament Christians have an OT take on people who harm us
Leviticus 24:19–22 NKJV
19 ‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him—20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him. 21 And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death. 22 You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the Lord your God.’ ”
Proverbs 24:24–25 NKJV
24 He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,” Him the people will curse; Nations will abhor him. 25 But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, And a good blessing will come upon them.
___________________________________________-
Matthew 5:39 NIV
39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
Romans 5:7 NKJV
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.

B. RESPONDING TO EVIL (17-21)

1. Do not repay with evil, be mindful of what is good (17)
2. If possible, be at peace (18)
3. Give place to the wrath of God (19)
4. Overcome evil by responding with good (20-21)
