BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU TOUCH

2 Samuel 6:6-7

INTRODUCTION

Scriptural Background

David is consolidating his power

The Ark had been in Kirajath-Jearim for 80 years

Contemporary Background

We live in the convenience age

We are motivated by two basic needs...

The need to be comfortable

The need to be satisfied

Spiritual Danger

We have a tendency of approaching God like the world...

THE DANGER OF SELF-CENTERED SERVICE

“What happens when we decide to serve God our way...”

God Demands Prayer... We Prefer Plans

David had a great plan (1 Chronicles 13:1-4)

He involved key leaders (1)

He included all the people (4)

He intended to do a good thing (3)

God had a greater priority (1 Chronicles 15:13)

God wants us to pray so we can come to know Him.

God is more interested in who you are that what you are doing for Him.

God Demands Obedience... We Prefer Performance

David planned a great parade (2 Samuel 6:3-5)

“New cart” = this was the world’s way (1 Samuel 6)

“With all their might” = They worked hard!

God had a prescribed procedure (1 Chronicles 15:14-15)

“In accordance with the word of the Lord” (Exodus 25:14)

God Demands Purity... We Prefer Excuses

Uzzah was a good guy with dirty hands (2 Samuel 6:6-7)

He did the best he could.

He meant well.

He was just trying to help.

God is serious about His requirements (1 Chronicles 15:11-12)

“Consecrate” = to dedicate, to purify

Psalm 24:3,4

Clean hands - our walk

Pure heart - our ways

Does not lift... - our worship

Swear by... - our witness

THE DELIGHT OF SELF-DENYING SURRENDER

“What happens when we surrender to God completely”

(Luke 9:23)  Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

God is Feared (2 Samuel 6:9)

Most of us fear Satan more than God

God is Praised (1 Chronicles 16:36)

God’s People are Blessed (1 Chronicles 16:2)

God’s Purposes are Accomplished (1 Chronicles 16:37-42)

Pastoral ministry (37-38)

Priestly ministry (39-40)

Praise ministry (41-42)

APPLICATION

How are you serving?

Be careful what you touch...

Don’t lay unclean hands on the things of God

Don’t lay an uncommitted life on the altar of God

If you serve... Serve...

Honestly

Humbly

Faithfully

Fully!
