What do I want them to do? Be meek
Why? To inherit the earth

Have you ever been misunderstood or said something in a misunderstanding way?
Like maybe you said to a woman friend who is almost 6’ foot tall, you called her a big woman, but by big you didn’t mean BIG all the way around, but just that she was tall.
What you come to find out is that big is a not a good to word to use for a woman who is tall....that will bring some misunderstanding and hurt feelings
Misunderstood some instructions. You were trying to put something together and some of it is misunderstanding because they are made in China and they are wrote it by translating Chinese into English...
Or there is a misunderstanding that when you spouse asks you to do something sometimes, like take out the trash or cut the grass they are not asking you to put it on your TO DO list called someday, but on your GET it DONE NOW To DO list.
TENSION
The reason I bring this up is because we are at the 3rd BEATTITUDE
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
which is one of most misunderstood of all the beattitudes and because SOME WESTERNERS READ or HEAR THIS WORD (see and read why we are blessed we define it in a way that is incorrect) we have incorrect definition of it..… We think it means something it’s not
We think things it’s not....I have for years thought it was something than it is.
What do people tend to think MEEK means?
Meekness = weakness
To be someone who little to no strength? (GREAT GREAT GRANDMA
To be someone who does not have a backbone?
NO
It does not mean lack of strength it is far from it.
This why many people think it is the “THE POWERFUL THEY WILL INHERIT THE EARTH NOT THE MEEK”
BUT EVEN IF THE RIGHT DEFINITION OF THE WORD is used some people will still REVOLT AGAINST because as we will see it does not fit into the kingdom of this world ideals or the AMERICAN WAY.....IT IS ANTITHETICAL TO THE AMERICAN WAY AND DREAM:
Because what we teach is it is the POWERFUL not MEEK that will inherit the earth.....but the kingdom of God is an upside down kingdom....it does not make sense in this world.
Let’s define MEEKNESS....What does meekness mean?
The word we get for meekness is the from the Greek word: πραΰς
which carries 3 meanings behind it and many times this is how Greek or Hebrew words work....we boil down to one word “meekness” but to understand “meekness” and what it means and looks like is to understand the fuller definition behind it.
What does πραΰς MEAN? Three things that help understand MEEKNESS....and all of them carry a measure of restraining power.
1. It means someone who is humble
Numb 12:3
Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.
Someone who is not arrogant, going around saying “Look how great I am.” “Look how amazing I am.”
Someone who is going around “not thinking of less of themselves but thinking of themselves less often.”....as Phil 2:3
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Someone who realizes everything they have is from God.
A meek person restrains themselves from being about themselves
2. Gentle
The person who is meek person is GENTLE person not easily angered, but slow to get angry. but they are not a weak person either....a Gentle person is a strong person because they are holding back what they want to say or do....and at the same time they are are not shrinking back from truth or doing what is right.
We see this displayed in how we show πραΰς to those outside and inside the church
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,
correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,
A πραΰς person stands for truth, they do not shrink back, but they do not become a hammer to destroy the person....(this is what the enemy whats us to be a SILENT or a DESTROY OF
This is what the Apostle Paul did over and over....He stood for what was TRUTHFUL, but
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
For even if I boast a little too much of our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be ashamed.
Same approach we should have with our brothers and sisters in Christ when they are caught in sin.
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
if we see some struggling outside the church, we do not say “well they chose that life” nor do we say “hey you idiot, repent”
We are to stand our ground.
The last definition and this brings it all together and where we are going to land today on this meaning of the word πραΰς “meekness”
3. Power under submission.
To help us understand this word it helps to understand how the word came to be.
This word was used when a powerful wild horse would become a trained horse, a horse who submitted their mission to someone else’s authority.
MEEKNESS MEANS πραΰς means power under submission of someone else’s authority..
Here’s a questions we must ask: Did that horse lose its power? NO....it had power that was in alignment, power in a set direction, power in a right direction…it was not wild power running free, but power in alignment, under submission.
Now we can see why even with the correct definition OF MEEKNESS that MANY PEOPLE ARE still at at odds with THE KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD MENTALITY
Why? We don’t want to be under someone else’s authority, we do not want to submit
We don’t want be UNDER some else, WE WANT TO BE IN AUTHORITY
We don’t want to be the MEEK horse THAT HAS BEEN TRAINED, but the wild horse
We don’t want we want to blaze our own trial,
ANYBODY ELSE FEEL THE SAME WAY AT TIMES?
I want to be in authority?
Why do I want to be a wild horse? Why do we want to be in authoirty
WHY? BECAUSE WE ARE PRIDEFUL ENOUGH TO THINK WE KNOW BEST…we think we know the better way to inherit the land…the land we are to go to....just let me free and I will get there just you watch out.
Let me live my own dreams.
Let me blaze my own trail
I KNOW THE WAY
BUT WHO ARE THE HORSES THAT NEVER MAKE IT TO THE THE PROMISE LAND? WHO NEVER INHERIT THE LAND, MAKE THE JOURNEY.
THOSE WHO LIVED WILDLY OR THOSE WHO SUBMITTED TO THEIR AUTHORITY?
THOSE WHO SUBMITTED TO THE AUTHORITY OF THEIR OWNER
This is what we see all over the Old Testament.....People over and over do not submit to God’s authority and what happens....the do not inherit the land....and What does God call the people who do not submit to his authority, rebel and do there own story? wild donkeys....wild camels
The wild donkeys are the ones who are SELFISH, ARROGANT, and also are the ones who miss out on the Promise Land.
God wants to give them the PROMISE LAND, the LAND…They just need to follow me and they will not.
HOW MANY TIMES HAS GOD COME TO ME, GRACIOUSLY AND TRUTHFULLY, PETE YOUR BEING A WILD DONKEY…YOU ARE
I am not being meek, but PRIDEFUL AND STUBORN
Prov 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
This wild donkey, wild horse mentality, belief is something we are taught at a young age THAT IT COMES INTO THE CHURCH, (I am guilty) is through phrase “not scripture” a phrase that is the American way....the kingdom of this world phrase that we are taught at an early age in grade school, by our friends and family,
It seems so innocent but
KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD PRINCIPLE: “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS” “follow your dreams to inherit the land”
Follow what you want to do, go where you want to go....what is your heart desire
What is this antittheitcal to the kingdom of God?
Your dreams may not be God’s plan or dream for you life
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
ON TOP OF THAT Where is that in scripture? Where do we see in scripture that it says “follow your dreams”
I have been at churches, seminars, trainings, church trainings “what are the dreams for your church”
We think all this BIG DREAMS, of bigger, better, stronger, faster
Where do you see God coming to Moses, “Moses what is your dreams for the nation of Israel?”
12 Disciples what is your dreams
Paul what is your dreams
What do we see in scripture?
Over and over in scripture we say God say “follow me”, submit your mission (submission) to me and I will show you the way
He will call and lead you somewhere,
He is calling you to inherit the land
And what happens is to leave your Egypt that God is calling you to leave you need to go through the wildnerness (the tough stuff) to get the promise land
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
AND ALSO A GREAT ENCOURAGEMENT AND WARING....where God will take you will be greater than your dreams....
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
You cannot imagine what God wants to do you in your life.
Do you think if you asked Moses what your dream for the nation of Israel....
- well funny you asked my DREAM is that GOD would send me back to Egypt to tell Pharaoh to let God’s people go, but he will not listen, so God is going to send 10 plagues and then Pharaoh will let us go, and eventually we are going to inherit the land and Israel is but become this thriving nation, the biggest in the world at time.
NO
DID MOSES HOPE FOR ISRAEL FREEDOM? YES, but I doubt he thought DREAMED OF WHAT REALLY HAPPEND
DO you think D.L. Moody, or Billy Gramham imagined that they would reach hundreds of people for God....no they followed God and felted called by God…they were MEEK and submitted to the authority of God.
Same is true of my life or some of our lives here....(you’ve never dreamed you would be where you are....but it is better than you imagined. (we do not have the LIFE OF D.L. MOODY or MOSES, but it is better than you imagined.)
Actually if you DREAM what God wants to do you in your life, you are settled for something less that is not the land.
The Christian life of MEEKNESS is trust and follow.
Kingdom of the world “follow your dreams” be a wild horse but you will not inherit the land
Kingdom of God submit to the authority of God
HOW DO WE BECOME MEEK? HOW DO WE BECOME MEEK and INHERIT THE LAND
Submitting to God’s authority and will
THIS IS WHERE IT STARTS.....to inherit the land does not mean come to Jesus and submit to Him when you would like…it means all of our life.
saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
This is hard sometimes....look at Jesus submitted to the point of earthly death.....and God raise Him from the dead and by doing so brings salvation and redemption.
PHIL 2 THE REASON WE HAVE SALVATION (THEE PROMISE LAND) IS BECAUSE JESUS BECAME MEEK AND SUBMITTED TO THE WILL OF HIS FATHER.
Jesus said not my will
and because of that we enter the land
God is going to ask you to submit to do things you do not want to do to lead you to the land....
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
It does not always make KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD sense…it might not make sense for weeks, months, or years....you might be years away from the land God is leading you to.
Look at the Lord’s prayer how it starts out...
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
2. Submitting to God’s Word
All of God’s word....we do not come to the Bible and say well I like that and I this, but cut that out and edit that....what happens when we do that? WE BECOME GOD, WE BECOME WILD HORSES
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
I am gong to trust you with God’s money
I am going to trust the Biblical view of marriage
I am not going to be unequally yoked
3. Submitting to God’s church
I get it for some of us this is HARD, you have been wounded by leaders that have been over you…and I can say so I have I, I have been deeply wounded by the church, I have scars to show for it.
There is no perfect church or perfect people expect God
God has put leaders in your life to help you live a godly life, they are not perfect, we need to test what they say, but God has put them there for you to inherit the land...
A Godly leader goal for your life is for you to GROW and GO....GROW in your love for God and others and help you and encourage you to GO where God wants you to go.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
This is one is also hard at times for us, and part of the reason it is hard besides we want to be in authority that compared to th
I will say from my personal experience of not thinking the leaders were right and witness over and over Saints who do not submit to leaders over them never inherit the land.
I witness people seek Godly counsel of what they should or Godly counseling sees what we are doing and says “watch out” and over and over I see these people and I’ve been there become wild horses and never inherit the land that God has for them because they thought they could get there on their own.
We become meek by submitting to God’s will author

Are you a wild horse? Our a horse under submission?
MEEKNESS IS HARD, BECAUSE OUR FLESH, OUR WORLD, THE ENEMY SAYS....no be a wild horse, blaze your own trial...
But you always miss the land
BUT WILL HELP YOU and THE CHURCH WILL HELP YOU
BE rejoice for Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the land
