WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 14:15-19, 25-26

INTRODUCTION

The IRS Conscience Fund

The IRS has a “Conscience Fund” that receives anonymous contributions from people who have cheated the government out of money in the past and who want to make up for it to clear their conscience but don’t want to risk criminal prosection. The Conscience Fund received a check from a man who included the following note:

I have not been able to sleep ever since I cheated you out of some money, so here is a check for $500. If I still can’t sleep, I’ll send you the rest.

A Can of BB’s

A salesman called on a contractor with a bid for the materials for a large job. He was invited into the contractor’s office where they chatted for a moment before the secretary came and summoned the contractor into another office. Alone, the salesman noticed that there was a bid from a competitor on the contractor’s desk with all the numbers written clearly. The total amount of the bid was hidden, however, covered by a small orange juice can. Unable to contain his curiosity, the salesman picked up the OJ can. When he did, thousands of BB’s poured out. Without saying a word, he walked out of the office never to return.

We all can identify with both of these stories.

We all struggle with doing right - that is where the Holy Spirit comes in!
