Attitude of the Saved!
Mark 5: 1-20; Luke 8:26-39
Attitude: A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior.
Philippians 4:8-9 - Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Proverbs 17:22 - A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.
Last week we talked about a biblically grounded conscience and I want to continue with the principles of having and maintaining a clear conscience before God.
1 Peter 3:21-22 - There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
Baptism signifies washing clean what is unclean.
The significance here is in drawing near to God and being cleansed from impurity in the heart and being undefiled with all kinds of things in the mind contrary to what the Bible has to say about those who have been cleansed!
Hebrews 10:22 - …Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
There is a psychological Heart that 1) attends intellectually (e.g., Jeremiah 12:11); 2) it also perceives (John 12:40), 3) understands (1 Kgs 3:9), 4) debates (Mk 2:6), 5) reflects (Lk 2:19), 6) remembers (Lk 2:51), 7) thinks (Dt 8:17), 8) imagines (Lk 1:51), 9) is wise (Eccl 1:17 KJV) or mad (Eccl 9:3), 10) has technical skill (Ex 28:3 KJV), and much more.
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. The New King James Version. (1982). (Heb 2:14–15). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
To be carnally minded is death (Romans 8)! This is a true statement not intending to be legalistic in the works of the flesh but because it is based in the fact that everything living in this world is going to die. Everything inanimate is going to perish in fire (2 Peter).
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? The New King James Version. (1982). (1 Co 3:1–3). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
