Jesus established a relationship with his disciples and initiated the Eucharist in establishing this New Covenant we have through the Son of God...
14 When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. 15 Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. 16 For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” 17 Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” 19 He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.
The Bible shows us how God establishes covenants with blood. ..
18 That is why even the first covenant was put into effect with the blood of an animal. 19 For after Moses had read each of God’s commandments to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, along with water, and sprinkled both the book of God’s law and all the people, using hyssop branches and scarlet wool. 20 Then he said, “This blood confirms the covenant God has made with you.” 21 And in the same way, he sprinkled blood on the Tabernacle and on everything used for worship. 22 In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.
This covenant Jesus established we do in remembrance of his death and we will do so until his coming back again in celebrating the Eucharist or Communion.
We have a spiritual connection with God in this celebration of communion in remembering the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. The establishing of this covenant by the blood of Jesus being a willing sacrifice to satisfy God the Father. This amazing relationship we have with God the Father helps us in our daily walk.
Lead into text: Our text today we will discover the power of Jesus’ relationship with us and the power of our redemptive fellowship with him through his victory over death. We see two disciples sadden by the loss of Jesus and pondering everything that has happen...

13 That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. 16 But God kept them from recognizing him. 17 He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?” They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.
I. When loss hurts!

b. The deeper the connection the longer the pain may last.

b. This same day can be a day of grief and possibly a day of joy.
How days can change by one message.
The current mood is based on the event of three days ago.
Today there is further development of this story.
We have to talk through our problems.
We have to talk through our problems.
14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened.
As they were headed to their destination they were talking about all that has happen.
They are discussion the loss they have suffered.
I can imagine them trying to get a grip in their discussion “Why” this has happen.
The belief of knowing the reason sometimes make one believe they can better handle the solution when they know the reason why.
Reasons can be discovered as we are going through and not before.
Reasons can be discovered as we are going through and not before.
Jesus told the disciples what would happen before his death, but they did not yet fully understand. Sometimes we are slow to get the full picture and sometimes things are not for us to understand fully.
One thing we can understand is that God is in control and God is good.
We know God because of His Word that tells us of His love toward us and fellowship we have in this covenant.
III. Jesus presence during loss (vv.13-16)
