Notes
Transcript
Genesis 12:11–13 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon: Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

I. Place of deception.

A. There because of fear.

Abraham had left Canaan because of a drought. Although the drought was real the promises of God were greater than the drought.

B. There because of a famine.

Famines in our life can lead us to a place where we are far from God.

II. Purpose of deception.

A. Narcissistic

Genesis 20:11–13 KJV 1900
And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake. And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

B. Negligent

Abraham was concerned with himself but took no thought of the price Sarah would pay.

III. Problem of deception.

A. The Price.

Lies always come at a price. We can choose the sin but we cannot choose the price tag.

B. The Perversion of God’s plan.

Lies are a perversion of Gods design. God is truth and a lie is a spirit against the nature of God.

IV. Plan of deception.

A. A Touch of Truth.

Sarah was Abrahams half sister. But she was more than that. Abraham thought that a half truth would allow him to retain his character.

B. Thought-out plan.

V. Product of deception.

A. Brought shame to God.

Egypts first encounter with the people of God was overcast with sorrow.

B. Brought shame upon his family.

Sarah was placed in a position of vulnerability because of Abrahams lie.

C. Brought shame upon himself.

He came to Egypt because of the drought but had to leave in shame.
Proverbs 22:1 KJV 1900
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, And loving favour rather than silver and gold.
