Q: Where do Believers Worship?
Q: Where do Believers Worship?
19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”
Exp - The Woman had a question of where believers should location (Location).
Remember the Jews and their relatives the Samaritans were concerned to preserve the place of God’s presence on Earth.
But this was about to change.
Eight Century BC the Northern Kingdom of Isreal fell and people from other parts of Assyria were brought into to the land and mixed with remaining northern Realities (Kings/Chronicles)
The Jews who returned from exile to the Southern Kingdom of Judah in the 6th Century were not mixed and rejected the Samarian population.
Animosity grew and explains the situation of the Woman’s question.
She is asking Jesus whether he thought that people should worship on the Mountain in Samaria or in Jerusalem, the city of the Jews.
Believe in Jesus
Believe in Jesus
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Exp - The first part of the answers explains something she didn’t ask.
V.21 - “Believe me”
What was the first thing she needed to do?
Soon the proper place would no longer be any of the options above.
Until that time, however, God’s plan of salvation was being brought to world through the Jews, who had recognized they right location.
The Samaritans choice was out of ignorance.
Jesus knew how to speak truth in Love and offer his grace at the same time.

John: An Introduction and Commentary (2nd Ed.) ii. Jesus’ Conversation with the Samaritan Woman (4:7–30)
This is a reminder that worship is not restricted to what we do when we come together in church, but is about the way we relate to God through the Spirit and in accordance with the teaching of Jesus, and that touches the whole of life.
No longer has anything to do with the Jewish temple system.
We must worship God in the Spiritual Plane that he exists in and in accordance with what he taught us through his son.
Ill
App - Dover Chapel, We cannot truly worship God if we don’t have God’s Spirit. Seeker, ask God to give you his Holy Spirit and accept Christ as your Lord. Then you will be able to worship him.
Believer - You must worship God, but that doesn’t just mean what we do here in Chapel. Our worship includes living out what Jesus has called us to do in every area of life, because God is Lord of every area of life.

25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
Exp - She didn’t quite catch the first imperative. But Jesus helps her out
Jesus is the Christ, not a last name, the Jewish Messiah. He is the savior of the who world. Without him we perish.
