WHAT WE HAVE IN JESUS

Psalm 23:5

INTRODUCTION

This pictures our relationship with Jesus.

David compares us to sheep and he tells us that Jehovah (Jesus) is our shepherd!

In the first four verses he tells us of the Shepherd’s personality, provision, purpose, and protection.

Here he borrows from the customs of his day and tells of the Shepherd’s peace...

The Shepherd’s peace is tied to the relationship we have with Him.

That relationship is based on who He is and what He has done for us.

Satan would have us believe that God is out to get us.

In fact He is out to give us... all things in Christ!

(James 1:17)  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,...

Lets just see what we really have in Jesus...

1A.       THE TABLE: The Friend We Have In Jesus

1B.       It is a Prepared Table - Nothing left to chance

Implies planning

Implies anticipation

2B.       It is a Personal Table - He knows what you need

1C.       A table of replenishment - for when you are famished

The feeding of the 5000

2C.       A table of restoration for when you have fallen

Peter at the sea after the resurrection

3C.       A table of remembrance - for when you forget

The Lord’s Supper reminds of his sacrificial love!

4C.       A table of rejoicing - for all the faithful

The marriage supper of the Lamb!

2A.       THE OIL: The Fellowship We Share With Jesus

1B.       The Oil Symbolizes a Special Welcome

Only the most special of guests would be welcomed with the anointing of oil!

2B.       The Oil Symbolizes a Special Celebration

(Psalms 45:7) ...your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.

3B.       The Oil Symbolizes a Spiritual Encounter

(2 Corinthians 1:21‑22)  Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, {22} set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

3A.       THE CUP: The Fullness We Have In Jesus

1B.       The Greatness of His Supply

(Ephesians 3:20)  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Not only years to your life but life to your years!

2B.       The Generosity of His Spirit

God is not stingy!

(Malachi 3:10)  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

3B.       The Gratitude of His Saints

(Matthew 10:8) ... Freely you have received, freely give.

(Proverbs 11:24)  One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

APPLICATION

Jesus wants to be your best Friend

Jesus wants to Fellowship with you closely and continually

Jesus want to Fill you with all you need and even more.
