THE JOY OF PERFECTION
Philippians 2:5-11
INTRODUCTION
Last Week Paul Challenged us to live in unity.
This Week we will examine our example and inspiration for such a life.
The key here is that we are the share Christ’s Attitude.
We are to have the mind of Christ - We are to think of things the way Christ thinks of them.
We need to learn to see things the way Christ sees them.
This can only be accomplished when we begin to understand who Christ is and What He has done...
1A. THE PRE-EXISTENT JESUS (6)
1B. He Is Fully God (6a)
“Very nature” = Form; he was indeed God
(Colossians 1:15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
(Hebrews 1:3) The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, ....
(Colossians 2:9) For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,
(John 14:9) ... Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. ..
2B. He is Forever God (6b)
(Revelation 4:8) ...Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."
2A. THE HUMILIATED JESUS (7-8)
“He made Himself nothing” = emptied himself - How...
1B. He Became a Servant To Man (7a)
Instead of receiving the service he deserved He choose to serve others!
(Mark 10:45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
2B. He Became Similar To Man (7b-8a)
(2 Corinthians 8:9) For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
He had to lay aside His glorified appearance for the simple appearance of a man.
3B. He Became The Sacrifice for Man (8b)
(1 Peter 3:18) For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
3A. THE EXALTED JESUS (9-11)
1B. The Source of His Exaltation (9a)
Only God could exalt Christ to this position!
2B. The Significance of His Exaltation (9b-11)
Seen in His Position (9b)
“Above every name”
Seen in His Power (10)
“Every knee shall bow...”
Seen in His Praise (11)
“Every tongue confess...”
