THE KING IS COMING

Revelation 19:11-21

INTRODUCTION

The King Is Coming

The market place is empty, No more traffic in the streets, all the builder tools are silent, no more time to harvest wheat; Busy house wives cease their labors, In the courtroom no debate, Work on earth is all suspended as the King comes thro’ the gate.

Oh, the King is coming, the King is coming, I just heard the trumpet sounding and now His face I see, Oh, the King is coming, the King is coming. Praise, God, He’s coming for me!

I can hear the chariots rumble, I can see the marchin throng. The flury of God’s trumpets spell the end of sin and wrong; Regal robes are now unfolding, Heaven’s Grandstands all in place, Heaven’s choir is now assembled Start to sing, Amazing Grace!

Three Key Terms Needed To Understand Revelation...

Rapture (4:1)

(Revelation 4:1)  "After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.""

Return (19:11)

Ready (22:20b)

(Revelation 22:20)  "He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus."

1A.       THE COMING KING (11-13)

1B.       His Return (11a)

Visibly - Bodily Return - Resurrection/Coranation

(Acts 1:11)  ""Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.""

2B.       His Royalty (11b-13)

His position - “white horse” = Victory

His promise - “Faithful and True” = Virtue

His purpose - “His eyes are like...” = Judgement

His preeminence = “many crowns” = Sovereignity

(1 Timothy 6:15)  "which God will bring about in his own time‑‑God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords,"

His punishment = “robe dipped in blood” = Wrath

The first time He came....

As a humble child ... Honored King

To a crucifixion... To a Coronation

To a tree... To a Throne

Stood before Pilate... Pilate will stand before him

In shame... In Splendor

To redeem... to Reign

As a servant... As a Sovereign!

2A.       THE CONQUERING KING (14-16)

1B.       THE ARMIES OF CHRIST (14)

The composition of these armies

Angels

(2 Thessalonians 1:7)  "...This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels."

Saints

(Jude 1:14)  "..."See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones"

The clothing of this army

“Fine linen white and clean” = our righteousness in Christ

2B.       THE AUTHORITY OF CHRIST (15-16)

His weapons (15a)

“Out of His mouth...nations”

His reign (15b)

“Iron scepter”

(Psalms 2:9)  "You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.""

His wrath (15c)

“Winepress...”

His title (16)

3A.       THE CONSUMING KING (17-21)

1B.       Satan’s Forces are Doomed at Armageddon (17-18)

The birds

The blood

(Matthew 24:28)  "Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather."

2B.       Satan’s Forces are Drawn to Armageddon (19)

(Psalms 2:1‑3)  "Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? {2} The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. {3} "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters.""

3B.       Satan’s Forces are Destroyed at Armageddon (20-21)

The beast and false prophet (20)

The armies (21)

Just a Word...

Once He spoke a Word to a fig tree and it withered away.

Once He spoke a Word to the howling winds and the heaving waves and there was a calm. Once He spoke to a legion of demons and instantly they fled.

Now He speaks a Word and the war is over.

APPLICATION

There is the Surety of Future

There is the Secrecy of Time

There is the Significance of Present

The King is Coming...

Oh, the King is coming, the King is coming, I just heard the trumpet sounding and now His face I see, Oh, the King is coming, the King is coming. Praise, God, He’s coming for me!

Is He coming for you?
