WHAT FUTURE?

1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11

INTRODUCTION

CBT:    Christians have reason to be confident concerning the future because theri ultimate destiny is secure.

TA:      To help young adults determine to live in ways that demonstrate their confidence concerning the future.

The Uncertainity of the Future...

If one overriding theme describes our generation it is change.

No longer are we sure that our children will grow up in the same neighborhoods we grew up in.

No longer is finding a good job a certainty of  future employment.

No longer can we be sure that we will not get very sick and suddenly be disabled.

With all these uncertainties isn’t good to Know there are still some things you can count On!


1A.       A REASON FOR HOPE - THE RAPTURE (4:13-18)

What is the basis of our Hope? (13-14)

What is the essence of our Hope? (15-18)

Some Facts about the Rapture...

It is Promised (16)

(John 14:1‑6)  ""Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. {2} In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. {3} And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. {4} You know the way to the place where I am going." {5} Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" {6} Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

It will be sudden and without warning (5:1-2)

(Matthew 24:36)  ""No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

 

(Matthew 24:42)  ""Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

It will precede a time of God’s Wrath (5:9)


2A.       HOW WE SHOULD LIVE TO BE READY FOR THE RAPTURE (8-11)

Be self-controlled (8a)

“Be sober”

Protect your heart with faith and love (8b)

Protect your thinking with the Hope of salvation (8c)

Be confident in God’s Purpose (9-10)

Be an encourager and builder of others (11)
