1A.       THE BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT EXPLAINED

1B.       It Involves Immersion - Transformation

(2 Corinthians 5:17)  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"

2B.       It Establishes Identity - Adoption

(Matthew 3:11)  ""I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire."

Christ is the baptizer, The Holy Spirit is the means by which this baptism takes place.

The Holy Spirit places into a new relationship with Christ!

2A.       THE BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT EXAMINED

1B.       It is Positional - God Does It

(Galatians 3:27)  "for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."

We are never commanded to be baptized (Ephesians 5:18)

2B.       It is Permanent - One Time Event

“Baptized” = Aorist Indicative Passive: aorist refers to something that happened once and is a completed act.

(Ephesians 4:4‑5)  "There is one body and one Spirit‑‑ ... {5} one Lord, one faith, one baptism;"

At salvation you get all the Holy Spirit you are going to get!

3B.       It is Universal - All Believers Receive it!

“We were all...”

(Romans 8:9)  "You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ."

It is not a product of a spiritual life - It produces a spiritual life!

(1 John 3:24)  "Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us."
