                                                                                           WISDOM IDENTIFIED

Proverbs 8:32-36

We have seen in our study of Proverbs that the central theme of this book is wisdom.

We have defined wisdom as sanctified common sense or the ability to discern right from wrong and do it.

In these verses Solomon personifies wisdom and in so doing identifies wisdom.

It is in these verses we discover that Jesus Christ is indeed the personification of wisdom so that when wisdom speaks Christ speaks.

(Colossians 2:3)  "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

1A.       WISDOM’S REQUEST (32-34)

1B.       Hear Wisdom’s Word

“Listen” = shama', shaw‑mah'; a prim. root; to hear intelligently (often with impl. of attention, obedience, etc.)

(John 6:63)  "... The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life."

(John 1:1‑2)  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. {2} He was with God in the beginning."

2B.       Walk in Wisdom’s Way (32b, 33b)

(John 14:15)  ""If you love me, you will obey what I command."

(John 14:23‑24)  "Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. {24} He who does not love me will not obey my teaching... "

(1 John 5:3)  "This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,"

3B.       Watch and Wait for Wisdom  (34b)

1B.       Because He has Come - The Suffering Servant

Revelation 3:20

2B.       Because He does Come - The Holy Spirit

(Matthew 11:28‑30)  ""Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. {29} Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. {30} For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.""

3B.       Because He will Come - The Conquering King

The Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13)

2A.       WISDOM’S REWARD (35)

(1 John 3:1)  "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."

(John 3:16‑17)  ""For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. {17} For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Sir James Simpson

Discovered chloroform. This allowed surgery to less traumatic. It was a tremendous breakthrough.

A reporter asked him “what he considered to be his most important discovery.” He replied “My most important discovery was when I found out that I was a sinner in the sight of a holy God.”

Reporter, “Tell me what you would consider to be your second most important discovery?”

Simpson, “Young man, my second most important discovery was when I found that Jesus died for a sinner like me.”

(John 14:6)  "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

(John 3:36)  "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.""

(Matthew 12:30)  ""He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters."

(John 5:39‑40)  "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, {40} yet you refuse to come to me to have life."

(Revelation 21:8)  "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars‑‑their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.""
