THE HOLY SPIRIT: HIS SUPPLY
2 Timothy 1:7
INTRODUCTION
Three - Fold Work of the Holy Spirit
His work for us: Salvation
His work in us: Sanctification
His work through us: Service
Key is Christian service...
We do not produce our own fruit, we must be supplied by the Holy Spirit!
Difference between Activity and Ministry
Activity = in the energy of the flesh
Ministry = in the energy of the Holy Spirit
(1 Peter 4:11) "... If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides,..."
The ability/strength to serve God comes from the Holy Spirit...
Look at 2 Timothy 1:9...
1A. HE WILL SUPPLY THE ABILITY TO SERVE
Power = dunamis, force (lit. or fig.); spec. miraculous power (usually by impl. a miracle itself):‑‑ability, abundance, meaning, might (‑ily, ‑y, ‑y deed)
1B. The Source of our Power
(Acts 1:8) "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; ...""
2B. The Scope of Our Power (Ephesians 1:18-20)
Five different words for power
In the Old Testament power = Red Sea
In the New Testament power = Jesus’ resurrection!
3B. The Significance of Our Power
(Philippians 4:13) "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
“Strength” =endunamoo; en: denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state); “dunamoo”: to enable from dunamis.
2A. HE WILL SUPPLY THE ATTITUDE OF A SERVANT
Love = agape, love, i.e. affection or benevolence; spec. (plur.)
1B. The Significance of Our Love
This is the great motivation for Christian Service!
Some serve out of fear
Some serve for praise
Some serve for self
2B. The Source of Our Love
(Romans 5:5) "... God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
3B. The Scope of Our Love
(John 7:38‑39) "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." {39} By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified."
If the love is not flowing something has stopped the flow...
Spiritual dirt and debris will stop the flow of love...
Some of you need to bust up the dams of sin so the love can flow!
Meditate on God’s love and you will find yourself loving others!!!!
3A. HE WILL SUPPLY THE ASSURANCE FOR SERVICE
“Self-discipline, sound mind” = Teaching or training; to be sober and settled not confused or unsure.
(Proverbs 3:5‑6) "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; {6} in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
1B. God Led Phillip
(Acts 8:29) "The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it.""
2B. God Led Simon Peter
(Acts 10:19‑20) "While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three men are looking for you. {20} So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.""
3B. God Led Paul (Acts 16:6-10)
By opening and closing doors.
By a series of circumstances.
5B. God will Lead Us
(Romans 8:14) "because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
How?
(Isaiah 30:21) "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it.""
We need a ear Trained to the Holy Spirit!!!!
