Privilege and Responsibility

What a great blessing and privilege it is to have the inspired word of God preserved in our own language.

I am talking about the King James Bible; it is the Book God has used for over 400 years.

With great privilege comes great responsibility. Here are seven things that we should do with our Bible every day:

1)    Read

Simply reading the Bible is where we must begin.

(Isa. 34:16)

Isaiah 34:16 KJV 1900
16 Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: No one of these shall fail, None shall want her mate: For my mouth it hath commanded, And his spirit it hath gathered them.
(1 Tim. 4:13)
1 Timothy 4:13 KJV 1900
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

2)    Study –

Studying the Bible is more intense than just reading it. We must examine it carefully with the purpose of understanding what it says.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim. 2:15)

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV 1900
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3)    Meditate –

To meditate on the word of God is to think deeply upon the truth we have learned through personal Bible study.

We will not be “nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine” (1 Tim. 4:6) without meditating on what we are learning as we study God’s word.

1 Timothy 4:6 KJV 1900
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

Meditation is to the spirit what digestion is to the body.

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. (1 Tim. 4:15)

1 Timothy 4:15 KJV 1900
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

4)    Hide it in our heart –

As we meditate on the truth, it will dwell in our heart. .

(Ps. 119:11)
Psalm 119:11 KJV 1900
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee.
(Col. 3:16)
Colossians 3:16 KJV 1900
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

5)    Apply –

Learning the Bible should have a personal impact on our lives.

(1 Tim. 4:6-7)
1 Timothy 4:6–7 KJV 1900
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. 7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

6)    Obey –

There is doctrine in the Bible that we must not only learn, but also obey.

(Rom. 6:17)
Romans 6:17 KJV 1900
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

7)    Teach –

We must pass on the truth we have learned to others. If we cannot communicate what we have learned, we haven’t truly learned it.

(2 Tim. 2:2)

2 Timothy 2:2 KJV 1900
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
