JESUS THE MODEL FOR MINISTRY:

HOW JESUS PREPARED TO MINISTER

Mark 1:9-37

INTRODUCTION

Not only did Jesus minister with Purpose He prepared for Ministry

Too often we act like ministry will just happen.

Ministry must be purpose driven and it must be intentional.

What did Jesus do that prepared Him to be successful in his ministry?

What can we do to insure our success?

Lets look at Jesus as He Prepares for Ministry...

1A.       WE SEE JESUS SEEKING UNBELIEVERS (9-13)

HE GAINED THEIR ACCEPTANCE

1B.       Because of His Obedience (9)

70 miles

No sin

2B.       Because of His Identity (10-11)

(Isaiah 53:12)  "... was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

Jesus purposely associated with unbelievers - He sought them out and identified with them.

This is compassion without compromise

Jesus mastered being “in the world” without “being of the world.”

The presence of the Trinity!

3B.       Because of His Victory (12-13)

He was compelled

He was challenged

By loneliness

By fear

By Satan

2A.       WE SEE JESUS SERVING WITH OTHERS (16-20)

1B.       He was not a Lone Range Christian

Jesus did not seek help because of His inabilities or weaknesses, He sought help because of His vision!

We work together because our vision is larger than one person!

2B.       He Called Ordinary Men (16-19)

(1 Corinthians 1:27‑29)  "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. {28} He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things‑‑and the things that are not‑‑to nullify the things that are, {29} so that no one may boast before him."

There is one essential requirement that must be met to be a minister - Be available and obedient

3B.       He Called Them to Extra-Ordinary Faith (20)

They left all they had and all they knew

What have you left to follow Jesus

Most of us have simply added Jesus to our lives

But these men exchanged all they had to follow Jesus

We serve because it is convenient

They served because of their commitment

3A.       WE SEE JESUS SPENDING TIME WITH THE FATHER (35-37)

1B.       Notice When He Went (35a)

Early!   (Psalms 63:1)  ".... O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;"

Often!

2B.       Notice Where He Went (35b)

Quite, Concentrated, Quality

3B.       Notice Why He Went (37)

Jesus spent time with God to renew His...

Vision, Vitality, and Victory!

APPLICATION

Are You Prepared to Minister?

Are you seeking unbelievers?

Are you serving with others?

Are you spending time with God?
