SomeOne Cares for You...

WHEN YOU ARE FRIGHTENED

Matthew 14:22‑33

INTRODUCTION

FEAR! Indeed it is a four‑letter word.

Fear has a paralyzing effect on us.

Fear has kept many from pursuing their dreams.

Fear has prevented numerous people from stepping forward and moving out in life.

Fear of rejection, fear of ridicule and fear of failure, they all play havoc on our self‑confidence.

The greatest tragedy is that fear will keep countless souls out of heaven.

Every been frightened?

Sure you have we all have.

What can you?

How can you overcome your fear and enjoy life, enjoy life the way God intends?

Today’s study will help us understand how be can overcome our fear - Because SomeOne Cares....

1A.       FEAR IS THE PRODUCT OF OUR “STORMS” (24)

The fear of being out of control - they were 3-3.5 miles from shore

The fear of not being able to change our circumstances - the wind was against them.

The fear of the unknown - ~3 a.m. and they could not make out who Jesus was.

2A.       GOD HAS A PURPOSE IN OUR “STORMS”

1B.       God is never surprised by our storms (22-23)

2B.       God will use our “storms” as a pathway to us (25)

3B.       God will use our “storms” to reveal himself to us (26-27)

Key here is “it is I” = “I am”

Jesus declares his power over the storm!

Jesus declares his presence in the storm!

Jesus declares his provision within the storm!

I am is an unfinished sentence... Fill in the blank!

Philippians 4:19 (NIV)  And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Not only is Jesus is necessary, He is enough

3A.       GOD HAS A PLAN THAT WILL BRING US THROUGH OUR “STORMS”

1B.       We must Look for Jesus when the Storm Comes (26)

They saw that what threatened to be over their head was already under His feet!

Ephesians 1:22 (NIV)  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,

2B.       We must Listen to Jesus in the Storm (27-29)

Jesus will comfort us. (27)

Jesus will challenge us. (28-29a)

Rom 10:17 (NIV)  Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

3B.       We must Obey Jesus during the Storm (29b)

Faith is venturing everything on God's faithfulness

Peter walked on the Word

4B.       We Must Stay with Jesus throughout the Storm  (30)

It is safer on the waves with Jesus than in the boat without Him!

He faltered because he looked at his circumstance

Colossians 2:6 (NIV)  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,

5B.       We Must Worship Jesus after the Storm (31‑33)

Worship is our response to God’s Grace!

APPLICATION

No matter what your fear is, he will come to you in it!

In the middle of your stress and despair

In the darkest moment when you cannot “see” your way out

When the contrary winds of circumstances and situations push you the opposite way.

Whatever it is that seems to be over your head is already under His feet!!!
