Object: A Bunch of grapes
I brought something tasty with me today. Because our message today is understanding the bible better.
We are going to be talking today about these words of Jesus:
John 15:5 (NIV) 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Three graphics:
Do you see the brown, the dark brown? Those are called “VINES”
The little leaves that are growing are growing from the vines. When the branches are connected to the vine in a healthy way, the grow like this:
Can you see how much they’ve grown?
If they stay connected to the vines they will continue to grow until they finally produce this (next slide)
Grapes…big, delicious, grapes. Grapes for eating and drinking.
John 15:5 (NIV) 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Jesus is the vine.
You and me are the branches. We were connected to Jesus in our baptism and ever since that day, Jesus provides all we need to grow in faith and in love for God and others. And the more we grow, the more fruit we can bear. Love is fruit. Joy is fruit. Peace is fruit. Patience is fruit. Kindness is fruit. Goodness is fruit. Faithfulness is fruit. Self-control is fruit. When we bear the Spirit’s fruit in our lives others enjoy it, God our Father is glorified, and we are blessed.
Let’s pray. Lord Jesus, thank you, for connecting, us to you. Help us to grow in our faith and love for You and others. In Jesus name. Amen.
