SomeOne Cares for You...

WHEN YOU ARE BROKEN HEARTED

John 11:1-44

INTRODUCTION

Christmas is a time of extremes.  It can be a time of extremes in spending and giving.  It can be a time of extremes in eating and partying, who among us will not put on a few pounds during the next two weeks. It can and should be a time of extreme joy and happiness as we celebrate our Savior’s birth.

But for many, Christmas is a time of extreme sadness, a time of broken heartedness.  Because of the loss of loved ones the holidays take on a gloomy, foreboding tone.  We dread every meal and party because they only serve to remind us of what we have lost.  If you are facing that kind of holiday take heart, because SomeOne Cares for you... When You are Broken‑Hearted!

Review the Story of Lazarus’ Death

The sisters

The savior

The situation

The solution

1A.       JESUS MINISTERS INTENTIONALLY

1B.       He Hears You - Even When You Think He’s Not Listening (1-4a)

(Psalms 4:3)  "Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him."

(Isaiah 65:24)  "Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear."

2B.       He Knows About Your Present Pain, But He Also Knows His Future Plans (4b)

(Isaiah 55:8)  ""For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD."

3B.       His Ministry is Based on His Relationship with You - Not Your Circumstances (5-10)

Jesus is motivated by His love for you (5)

(John 3:16)  ""For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus is moved by God’s timing not Your trouble (6-10)

(Romans 5:6)  "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly."

4B.       He will Never Play Games with Your Emotions (11-16)

Jesus will not ignore you to hurt you, He will sometimes delay in order to reveal himself to you.

2A.       JESUS MINISTERS INDIVIDUALLY

1B.       He Encouraged Martha’s Faith (17-27)

Martha was a worker - she needed proof to Jesus’ power (21-22)

Martha’s faith was based on Jesus’ performance (24)

Jesus calls Martha to a deeper faith based on His Person! (25-26)

2B.       He Empathized with Mary’s Pain (28-37)

Mary was a thinker - she needed proof of Jesus’ presence (28-29)

Mary’s faith was based on Jesus’ presence (32)

Jesus calls Mary to a deeper faith base on His Promises. (33-35)

3A.       JESUS MINISTERS EFFECTIVELY (38-44)

1B.       He brings Hope to Hopeless Situations (38-40)

(Ephesians 2:12‑13)  "remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. {13} But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ."

2B.       He brings Faith to those who Doubt (41-42)

Your questions and doubts do not frustrate God Most of what He does is to demonstrate to you who he is and His trustworthiness.

3B.       He brings Life to those who are Dead (43-44a)

(Ephesians 2:1, 4-5)  "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, ... But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, {5} made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions‑‑it is by grace you have been saved."

4B.       He brings Freedom to those who are Bound (44b)

(Romans 6:22)  "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life."

(Galatians 5:1)  "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
