God Works It Out

Introduction: Have you ever said, “Who do they think they are” or “They don’t know who I am.” I believe this is the most reoccurring thought in God’s mind as He leads us through this life.

Moses has one last preparation to confront before he is sent to confront God’s children and Pharaoh. Remember, there was a time when Moses thought he knew God, himself and God’s people well enough to take the sword and start swinging. How quickly did he and well as ourselves learn how we don’t know near as much as we thought we did.

Here is what I want to propose to you today: 1) You must have a clear understanding of you, 2) Live in the reality of who God is, 3) Live in the reality that God will provide all necessary provisions for your life’s journey.

1) A Strengthened Servant

Out off all the sources of to get an answer to this question, Moses turns to God for the answer.

Moses was not interested with just any answer.

Most people want to her what they like to hear.

Here is a dialog that you must never overlook or forget.

Moses asks God the question, “Who am I?”

NOW, Moses is ready to be used.

God assured Moses that He would be with him!

This is how God trains all His people for service.

David - God had to take the giant slayer and put him in caves while hunted like and animal before he was ready for the throne.

Elijah - Before the prophets of Baal, there was the brook, ravens, widow and son.

Paul - (2 Cor. 12:10) Moses learned “he” could not but “He” could through him.

The reason many of us are not used of God is simply because we are “too strong.”

1 Cor. 1:27

1 Cor. 15:36-38

Like the seed of Wheat, unless it changes form to a plant, it will never produce anything.

It is truly amazing what God can do through a weak vessel.

2nd question: “What shall I say to them?”

Remember, 40 years ago, God’s people were not understanding of Moses.

Remember, they have not been allowed to worship for over 40 years now.

Moses had every right to fear they had grown ignorant in Egypt (lack of teachers and keeping of the sabbath)

God answers Moses:

I AM THAT I AM

Self-existing

Quote: “he has his being of himself, and has no dependence upon any other: the greatest and best man in the world must say, By the grace of God I am what I am; but God says absolutely—and it is more than any creature, man or angel, can say—I am that I am. Being self-existent, he cannot but be self-sufficient, and therefore all-sufficient, and the inexhaustible fountain of being and bliss.” (Matthew Henry)

This means that He is eternal and unchangeable. (Rev. 1:8)

You and I can never completely search all of Him out. (Prov. 30:4)

(v15) Moses reminds them that this God is the God of their fathers.

He is the covenant making and keeping God.

We can all lose touch of what God has done in our own lives and those in our past.

2) A Promising Commission

Moses had to approach two different people:

God’s children:

God made a promise that Moses would worship Him along side the children of Israel.

Now, the difference between now and 40 years ago is this, God gives them the will to practice obedience. In other words, God has worked out the timing of the bondage so that their heart is now broken enough to surrender.

Pharaoh:

Here we see the model for evangelism - Approach sinners with humility and value.

However, God plainly tells Moses that their gentle petitions and persuasions would not prevail.

(v20) God informs Moses what it will take for Pharoah to release the people.

In like manner, God send us out today with the same approach to sinners; persuasively gentle and humble.

3) A Provision of plenty

Remember back...These people were under harsh labor without pay for years.

Notice this astounding promise God makes (vv21-22)

Have you ever thought for a moment, “God is just not treating me kindly!” and later God ushers a blessing into your life that just brings you to your knees in repentance and thanksgiving?

God times this miraculous repayment at the time they needed it the most; the time of their Exodus.

In the moments of being under slavery and robbed of wages, God had already worked out how they would be justly repaid.

Conclusion: We today are being prepared for the Christian life; serving God. Know this, God not only is your strength for service but also the one who provides the supply to serve Him. Are you trusting God to work out the details for the path He has laid out for you? If He is the God of the plan, He is the God of the provision!
