Describe the scene around the Fire (John 18:15-27)

Simon Peter had blown it badly

Ever felt like you had really blown it?

I mean gone beyond the point of no return

Ever wonder if God would or even could forgive you?

I have Good News!

Someone cares for you... Even when you have blown it!

Lessons from Simon Peter...

“I’m going out to fish...” (John 21:3)

1A.       JESUS CALLS US TO FELLOWSHIP

1B.       Jesus never breaks fellowship with us - We break fellowship with Him (21:3-4)

When we grow impatient with God’s pace

When we disagree with God’s plan

When we disregard God’s presence

2B.       Jesus always seeks to restore fellowship with us - even if we do not

He responds to our need (21:5-6)

He receives us back no matter how we come (21:7-8)

He requires us to come with only what He has given us (21:9-11)

He restores us to intimate fellowship (21:12)

2A.       JESUS CALL US TO DISCIPLESHIP

1B.       Regardless of the cost (21:18-19)

Luke 14:25-33

Ø       Discipleship is costly

Ø       We must be willing to endure the cost

Ø       The benefits are not always immediate but they are eternal

2B.       Regardless of the circumstances (21:20-21)

Luke 12:51-53

Not everyone we know and love will join us in our faith.

We must be willing to serve Christ no matter what others say or do

We must recognize that our relationship with Christ is more important than any other relationship in life.

3A.       JESUS CALLS US TO LEADERSHIP

1B.       Leadership motivated by love (21:15-17)

Jesus calls us to a higher motive for service

Agape = unselfish love (21:15, 16)

Simon Peter’s motive was based on human love

Philo = brotherly love (21:15, 16, & 17)

2B.       Leadership demonstrated by service

Our service is to be practical

Feed (21:15, 18) bosko, to pasture; to graze, feed, keep.

Our service is to purposeful

Tend (21:16) poimaino, to tend as a shepherd (or fig. supervisor):‑‑feed (cattle), rule.

Our service is to be personal

Lambs, little ones

Sheep, adults

APPLICATION

Do you feel like you have blown it?

Good News Jesus comes to you today and calls you to...

A new fellowship based on His provision not your performance.

A new discipleship based on commitment not on circumstances.

A new leadership based on love not law.
