tHE vALUE OF YOUR BIRTHRIGHT
Introduction
Ø The birthright consisted of the special privileges that belonged to the firstborn male child in a family. Prominent among those privileges was a double portion of the estate as an inheritance. If a man had two sons, his estate would be divided into three portions, and the older son would receive two.
1A. Esau Showed a Lack of Physical Discipline
He wanted to satisfy his appetite
He sought to fulfill a good desire in a bad way.
2A. Esau Showed a Lack of Spiritual Discernment
He forgot that the birthright carried not only the Father's inheritance but also the Family's headship
He forgot that the birthright made him both the prince and the priest for the family and for the people of God
He cared more about satisfying his physical desires than about fulfilling God's purposes
Your Sexual Purity and Virginity is Your Birthright!
Don't Trade it for a Bowl of Beans… God has a plan and a purpose for you to fulfill but you must remain pure!
PLEASE STAND AND JOIN TOGEHER IN OUR VOWS…
Students:.............. We stand here today and believe that true love waits. We affirm our commitment to God, ourselves, our friends, our family, our future mate, and our future children. Our commitment is to stay sexually pure from this day forward until the day we enter a biblical marriage relationship.
Parents:................. We stand here today and believe that true love waits. We want you, our children to have long and happy lives full of love. We support you in this significant commitment. We pledge to help you in both our attitudes and actions, to always love you, and to be here for you.
Church:................. We stand here today and believe that true love waits. We are proud of the way that God is working in your lives. We pledge our prayers, our time, and our support to you.
Students:.............. I must depend on God’s Word and be obedient to Him in every area of my life.
Church:................. We pledge to support you in your life long quest for knowledge of true love.
Parents:................. If we give you everything we own, everything you have ever desired, but have not demonstrated or shown you love, this pledge will be difficult for you.
Students:.............. We have seen love demonstrated to us. We want in turn to show love to ourselves, our family and our friends. We want to love in truth. With God’s help, we know that we can be obedient to Him. We know that when we honor God’s commands we will experience His best for our lives.
All:......................... Thank You God for loving us enough to give us a
plan for sexuality. We pledge ourselves to You and to true love. Thank You for the power to live sexually pure lives.
Parent please take the symbol of your love for your student and place in your hand
Pastor:................... Adult, face your student and repeat after me. (Pause as indicated) This is a symbol...of a vow to purity...There is not a day...that we will not pray...for God’s very best for your life...We love you!
Pastor:................... Students, give your commitment cards to your parents as a symbol of your love and devotion. - hold hands with your parents or sponsoring adult and repeat after me. (Pause as indicated) Believing that true love waits, ...I make a commitment to God, ...myself,...my family,... my friends,... my future mate,...my future children...to be sexually abstinent...from this day...until the day I enter...a biblical marriage relationship.
Student Pastor: For the past 6 weeks we have discussed about True Love. How God’s motive for us to abstain from sex until marriage is His love. A love that does not want us to suffer the consequences of wrong choices. Tonight you have made a good choice. You have decided that from today forward you will allow Christ to be the Lord of your date and sex life. You will be tempted, however, as you grow in your love relationship with Jesus you will mature and be able to continue your good choices during your single lives. Students, on your wedding night you are to give this symbol of love that your parents have given you tonight to your spouse as a symbol of your commitment to sexual purity. I too, pledge my love and prayers for you. I am proud of your choice and stand behind you with my life and my love. Parents/Students you may show affection.
