Romans 14:13 CSB
Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister.

INTRO—

Unity...
Takes WORK.
Ephesians 4:3 CSB
making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Welcome the Weak. (Romans 14.1-6)
Welcome: Jesus Does for Us Forever. (Romans 14.7-9)
Welcome: Live Free, Righteously. (Romans 14.10-12)
The Principle of Christian Liberty.
Hey, y’all…the other day we played this great new game with the Cartledges called, “Poetry for Neanderthals.” … so, the main points of my message today—just might be impacted by this context...
Today, the Principle (Law) of Christian (Christ Fam) Love!

Judge Well! [Romans 14.13-14, 20b-23]

Romans 14:13 CSB
Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister.
“Let us no longer judge (κρίνωμεν)...”
Instead DECIDE (κρίνατε; aorist active imperative)...”
Good Judgment!…“It is a good thing not to…do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble.” [Romans 14.21]
[1 Corinthians 8.7-13]
1 Corinthians 8:13 CSB
Therefore, if food causes my brother or sister to fall, I will never again eat meat, so that I won’t cause my brother or sister to fall.
Judgment: Live by Faith!
Romans 1:17 CSB
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.
(Habakkuk 2.4)
No Doubt (διακρινόμενος = divided loyalties) [Romans 14.22-23]
James 1:6 CSB
But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
Before God… & (same…) with Each Other.

Help Not Hurt! [Romans 14.15-18; 19-20a]

“Therefore, do not let your good be slandered” (Romans 14.13)
Slandered = criticized; reviled; blasphemed… [HURT]
Not HURT...
“Do not destroy (spiritually ruin)…someone for whom Christ died.”
Destroy (14.15b; present active imperative)…hurt(14.15.a).…tear down(14.20a; present active imperative)
Think back to 1 Corinthians 8.7-13…eating meat in a pagan temple…
1 Corinthians 8:10–11 CSB
For if someone sees you, the one who has knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, won’t his weak conscience be encouraged to eat food offered to idols? So the weak person, the brother or sister for whom Christ died, is ruined by your knowledge.
HELP… [“the good for you; your good”; Romans 14.16]
We need to be “walking according to love” (Romans 14.15)
“Pursue what promotes peace and what builds up...” (Romans 14.20a) [, be cause…]
“the kingdom of God is…righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14.17)
Psalm 34:14 CSB
Turn away from evil and do what is good; seek peace and pursue it.
Ephesians 4:12 CSB
to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
Nehemiah 8:10 CSB
Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Galatians 5:22–23 CSB
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.

CONCL—

Unity...
Freedom for each other…Principle of Christian Liberty.
Patience with each other…Principle of Christian Love.
1 Thessalonians 5:14–15 CSB
14 And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.
Romans 14:23 CSB
But whoever doubts stands condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith, and everything that is not from faith is sin.
