What is the job of an ambassador? A representative of someone or some group.
What do you think should be the motivation or the mindset of an ambassador?
This week we are going to look into how we are ambassadors for Christ.
Read 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
5:11-15 the mindset of an ambassador for Christ
v12: Having a sincere heart rather than pride in outward appearances.
v14: Christ’s love compels us not our love for him, for he loved us first by dying for us all. Those of us who live now live for him. Paul says he is compelled (control) and convinced (concluded) of what Christ has done. That one (Christ) has for all, therefore all died. Outside of Christ you are dead.
v14-15: He (Christ) died for all so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Because Paul is compelled and convinced that those that live no longer live for themselves. This is part of the mindset of a Christian ambassador. Why?
v 16-17 We used to know Christ only according to human consideration before conversion. We no longer know Christ is in this way. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature and the old things passed away, new things have come.
verse 18-19 - we are given the gift of ministry of reconciliation.
verses 20-21 - With all this in mind from the previous verses....we are ambassadors for Christ.
Now all ambassadors have a message they are given to communicate to other countries. Earthly ambassadors carry treaties, embargoes, or declarations of war. God’s ambassadors have a message. We have good news.
Do you believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news?
What is so good about it?
Have you ever felt the Spirit leading you into a spiritual conversation with someone? Maybe you have an experience of when you backed down from the task. Evangelism is a great idea in theory but when the time comes we tend to panic.
Evangelism just isn’t me. I just do not have that gift because if I did I would just dive right into it. If God wanted me to share the gospel with that person He would have given me the spiritual gift of evangelism. So its just not for me and someone with the gift can share. I’ll do the other stuff.
If you think that then you believe a lie about your identity in Christ. Now for last few weeks we have looked at this model of identity. Recognizing that what we believe about ourselves is how we will try to live even if it is a lie. Inclinations leading to actions to consequences that give us a reality that we live with and all born out of our beliefs about our identity.
Whether you are gifted in evangelism or not you are, in your identity in Christ, you are an evangelist.
If you believe the gospel is good news are you willing to share it to someone else?
If not, why are you not willing to share all those good things you received from Christ with someone else?
What is one step this week you can take to sharing the good news of Christ with someone else?
