Intro
We’ve talked about what they Gospel is, why we should share it, last we need to talk about how to share it
And it is actually really simple
There are a lot of different ways to present it
Different illustrations, metaphors, etc.
The really cool thing is, all you have to do is present what is already said in the Bible
You don’t have to create a new message, come up with something from scratch
Its all been written down for you
Body
The main points of the Gospel
Good God, good world, people created in God’s image
Humans rebelled against God
God acted through Jesus to save people
Jesus commands a response
1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Paul is writing about how he presented the Gospel to the Corinthians
He didn’t come with fancy words, a professional writer, he wasn’t a professional YouTuber
He was just a regular guy like you and me
Instead all he spoke of was the message of Jesus
That God sent Jesus to earth to be crucified for our sins
That’s it, that’s the Gospel, it’s that simple
You’ve all sat here and heard the Gospel explained, talked about it in small group, you all know the Gospel
If you can’t answer the question what is the Gospel, then you haven’t been paying attention
So ask your leaders in small group to go over it
Because you have to know what it is as a Christian
When I was a student, I would be more worried about having the right words to say, making sure I had convincing arguments and counterpoints ready if I was going to tell someone about Jesus
What that actually led to was me not sharing the Gospel
Because I was scared I was going to mess it up
That I wouldn’t speak well, that I would make a fool of myself, and then that person would never want to follow Jesus
The reality is, that tries to give me too much credit when it comes to sharing the Gospel
John 16:7-11
Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit and how it will convict the world of its sin
What is conviction?
Being found guilty of a crime
That feeling when you’ve done something wrong and you know it
That is actually the Holy Spirit working in you, to guide you away from the sin and toward God
So when we tell people about the Gospel and how they are dead in their sins, that God offers forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus
Our job is just to state that truth. Now we do this clarity and out of love for someone, but the actually work of convincing someone of the truth of the Gospel is God’s work not mine.
This helps take some of the pressure off ourselves
Our role is to share the Good News, then God works in a person’s life and leads them toward conviction and faith
Share the Gospel by presenting this truth, not by convincing, or persuading
Application
Christian
Do you actually believe this?
The barrier to conversations about faith isn’t a lack of knowledge, its a lack of caring
Non-Christian
Consider your worldview
What is your purpose?
Why are humans here?
Why is there evil in the world?
Consider how the Gospel answers these questions
Conclusion
You share the Gospel by telling someone the truth of what God has done through Jesus in order to save humanity from their sins. Our job is not to argue and convince people, we should present the gospel well and with clarity, but ultimately someone’s decision to follow Jesus is between that person and God.
