John 13:1 NASB
1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
Jesus was met with glad Hosanna’s as He made His entry into Jerusalem! Jesus predicts His death, but the crowd had expected Him, as Messiah, to remain forever. But Jesus answered, “The light will be with you only a little longer.” Jesus went away and hid from them. Even though He had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in Him, because God had blinded their eyes .
John 12:39–40 (NASB95PARA)
39 For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40 “HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM.”
He is in the upper room with His disciples. The Feast of the Passover celebration was soon to take place.
Jesus knew fully, what was about to occur. He knew “His hour” had come. In a short period of time, Jesus would depart from this world to return to the Father, but first, He would would suffer and die.
