SF707 - GOD_S BLUEPRINT FOR THE MAN - 2 of 6 HOME IMPROVEMENT DISCOVERING GODS BLUEPRINT FOR THE FAMILY (Psalm 128 1-6)
Psalm 128:1-6
Introduction
Not every male is a Man!
It takes maturity to be a man!
We need Real Men
(Joshua 24:15 NIV) “… But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.""
Ø The welfare of America depends on the welfare of our homes and the welfare of our homes depends on the spiritual condition of our men.
To the Unmarried…
“It is far better the marry a man who does not have a cent but is worth a million than to marry a man who has a million and is not worth a cent.” A. Rogers
Real men are developed not born!
“Any great men born here? No just babies.” A. Rogers
One of the chief problems in America is the unfaithfulness of men - Drop out Dads
Ø 1/3 of America’s kids are growing up without their biological fathers.
Ø >15 million kids are growing up in homes without any type of father.
Ø 70% of men in prison grew up in a home without a father.
Ø My generation is divorcing at a rate of 2x our parents.
What is God’s Blueprint for a Man?
1a. A Real Man Practices his Faith (1)
1B. He is Trusting in Jesus for Eternal Life (1a)
“Fear” = spiritual fear; combining the elements of reverence and trust
(Psalms 84:12 NIV) "O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you."
(Jeremiah 17:7 NIV) ""But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him."
(John 1:12 NIV) "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--"
2B. He is Living for Jesus Every Day (1b)
(Psalms 112:1 NIV) "Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands."
We need men who live for Jesus every day not just on Sunday.
(Matthew 22:37-40 NIV) "Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' {38} This is the first and greatest commandment. {39} And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' {40} All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.""
2A. A Real Man Provides for His Family (2)
1B He Provides for their Physical Needs
(Genesis 3:19 NIV) "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food ….""
(Proverbs 14:23 NIV) "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."
He trusts God to provide through him
(Psalms 37:25 NIV) "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread."
(Philippians 4:19 NIV) "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus."
2B He Provides for their Emotional Needs
Ø Provision goes beyond food, clothing and housing
Ø What does my family really need?
Ø We need to plan and pray for our families
3B. He Provides for their Spiritual Needs
(Job 1:5 NIV) "When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom."
3A. A Real Man Protects his Family (3-4)
1B. He is to Support His Wife (3a)
A vine must be supported in order to be fruitful
Ø Your chief assignment is to make your wife a greater Christian
1C. You represent Jesus to your wife
(Ephesians 5:22 NIV) "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord."
(Ephesians 5:23 NIV) "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior."
Ø The man pictures Christ
Ø The wife pictures the church
2C. You are the head of your home
(1 Corinthians 11:3 NIV) "Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."
Ø Anything with no head is dead and anything with two heads is a freak!
Ø God places more responsibility on the husband than the wife.
If this bothers the wife ½ is due to her sin nature and ½ to his sin nature
Ø Her sin nature wants to rebel
Ø His sin nature wants to rule
2B. He is to Cultivate his Children (3b)
An Olive Tree is Fruitful when it is Cultivated
(Ephesians 6:4 NIV) "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."
1C. You cultivate your children by training them
Ø The father pictures God in the home
Ø We are to teach them about by our attitudes and actions
Ø One of the chief characteristics of God is faithfulness
Ø This includes promise making AND promise keeping! Stand by your promises!!!!!!
The promise to stay with their mother until death.
The promise to serve God.
2C. You cultivate your children by teaching them
“Rules without relationships make rebellion.” J. McDowell
Ø It takes discipline, instruction, demonstration and TIME!
Ø The average father spends 7.5 minutes per week with his teenager.
Ø If a father does not spend time with his daughter her chances of becoming promiscuous becomes greatly increased.
You will only stay with it if you are willing to sacrifice for it. Our example is JESUS!
4A. A Real Man Plans for the Future (5-6)
1B. By Preparing Himself
(Mark 8:36-37 NIV) "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? {37} Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?"
2B. By Preparing His Family
Not only for this life but for the life to come!
(Psalms 78:5-7 NIV) "He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, {6} so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. {7} Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands."
Children do not make a rich man poor they make a poor man rich!
Application
God make me a real man…
A man that loves God enough to serve Him with all I am.
A man who loves his wife enough to sacrifice for her all I have.
A man who loves his children enough to train them to love the Lord.
A man who loves his church enough to support it!
