PERMISSION
When I was in elementary school I would go outside to play with my friends a lot
BUT before I went outside — Can you guess who I needed to ask permission from?
MY DAD!
Did you do your homework?
Did you finish your chores?
Audience: What are some things you need permission to do?
Video games — Hang out with friends — Entertainment
Audience: Don’t you sometimes wish you could do what you wanted whenever you wanted?
without asking your parents?
This is how we treat God many times!
We make our plans without thinking of God
We all want to do something but we want to do it freely —
OR we want whatever route that provides the least resistance
Maybe we need to ask our parents but many times we do not ask God.
The PROBLEM — We make mistakes and God does not!
Proposition: Since we make mistakes and God does not, we should never make our plans without God.
The Wrong Attitude (v. 13-14)
The Wrong Attitude (v. 13-14)
Acting Like God (v. 13)
We are going to go here and this will happen!
SPORTS — WRESTLING (WWE) — FIGHTING
“I will become the next champion.”
IS that prideful for what?!
James 4:6 — God opposes the PROUD but gives grace to the HUMBLE
Genesis 3:5-6 — Devil tempted Eve with being like God.
The wrong attitude is to take the place of God so what is the right attitude?
The Right Attitude (v. 15)
The Right Attitude (v. 15)
Let God be God (v. 15)
“Let go and let God.”
NOT LIKE ELSA —
“Let it go, Let it go cant hold it back anymore! let it go, let it go. turn away and slam the door!”
Doesn't mean — Do nothing! It means, make your plans, but be open to God having a better plan!
BACK TO PERMISSION ANALOGY
What are some answers our parents give us?
Yes — no — not right now
Do we always like these answers???
But are they generally good for us??
YESSSSSS!!!!
You might be saying, but my parents make mistakes, that is true BUT
God does not :)
If we Continue, we are in Sin = Danger
If we Continue, we are in Sin = Danger
Discipline
Maybe we do not even know God
This is not a follow these steps for a happier life
This is a WARNING
Think of it in terms of a RELATIONSHIP
What would you think of a relationship between two people who never talked?
What if i didn't care what my wife thought???
Now think of your relationship with God.
