We’ve been looking at the fact that you and I can always trust God. Trust is one of the things God values in Himself and in us. We saw last week that there are really two things necessary for trust to be built. Character and being consistent. Character deals with integrity. Being someone who follows through on what they say. Well we know there is no one with perfect character other than God. He has perfect character. Says what He means and then hastens to perform His word.
We also know that there is no one more consistent than God. He will always be the same. Last week we also looked at the fact that we can trust God because He is able to do what He is said He would. There is nothing too difficult for Him. Nothing is impossible for God.
Today I want us to see this attribute of God. It is something He values and we must know this about Him. It’s simply this, He never changes. Talk about consistency, He never changes! He has plans for us that were from the beginning of time and because He never changes, those plans are being carried out for us!
6 “I am God—yes, I Am. I haven’t changed. And because I haven’t changed, you, the descendants of Jacob, haven’t been destroyed.
1. God doesn’t change!
1. God doesn’t change!
Now this is awesome for us to know. God doesn’t ever change! If He promised something on one day, it doesn’t change the next day. Since the beginning of time, when God’s creation was created by Him, He has never changed. Times have changed. Circumstances change. We face new challenges and we all know that especially now, everything in the world has changed. The world as we knew it a year ago, has changed. But God has not changed at all. He is still the Life Giver, He’s still Jehovah Jireh, the God that provides, He’s still Jehovah Rapha, the God that heals! He still Jehovah Shalom, the God of Peace, He’s still Jehovah Nissi, He is our banner. He is still Jehovah Shammah, He’s always there. He’s El Shaddai, the Lord God Almighty, and He’s El Elyon, The Most High God. Jesus is still the King of kings and Lord of lords and the Name above all names. God has not changed!! he never ever changes!
11 For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
2. This unchanging God has a plan for us!
2. This unchanging God has a plan for us!
You see we might not know our future but God does. We might be fearful not knowing what will happen, but we can rest assured because God knows what will happen. He tells us His plan for us is a good plan. It gives us a future and a hope. What plan does man have that does this? The news doesn’t give us a future and a hope. No many times all we get is doom and gloom from it. Now it’s one thing to be informed, but we must realize that no matter what the reports look like, we have a God that has a plan for us that gives us hope for the future. Here’s where faith comes into play. We must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. This means that as we work on our relationship with God, He reveals this magnificent plan He has for us! When we know that we know in our knower, that’s in our heart not just our head, we get filled with hope because we know that God never, ever changes! Let me say that again, God never ever changes!
17 Now to the King of eternity, incorruptible and immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever (to the ages of ages). Amen (so be it).
3. The attributes of God never change!
3. The attributes of God never change!
God is the King of eternity. His attributes don’t change or lessen with time. Eternal is the Greek word Aion which means: for ever, an unbroken age, perpetuity of time, eternity. Look at this, God is the King forever, unbroken, which means there is no break in His rulership, never. He’s immortal, death couldn’t hold Him. He operates in the unseen realm and He is the only God. This doesn’t ever change. This is who He is. It’s like I can’t change my ethnicity, it’s who I am. God does not change. In face God never ever changes.
6 Yet when I am among mature Christians I do speak with words of great wisdom, but not the kind that comes from here on earth, and not the kind that appeals to the great men of this world, who are doomed to fall. 7 Our words are wise because they are from God, telling of God’s wise plan to bring us into the glories of heaven. This plan was hidden in former times, though it was made for our benefit before the world began. 8 But the great men of the world have not understood it; if they had, they never would have crucified the Lord of Glory.
9 That is what is meant by the Scriptures which say that no mere man has ever seen, heard, or even imagined what wonderful things God has ready for those who love the Lord. 10 But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches out and shows us all of God’s deepest secrets. 11 No one can really know what anyone else is thinking or what he is really like except that person himself. And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) to tell us about the wonderful free gifts of grace and blessing that God has given us.
4. God has wonderful things prepared for us!
4. God has wonderful things prepared for us!
The Holy Spirit reveals to us the things that no human wisdom has ever known. God has wonderful things prepared for all those who love Him. We don’t get to know these things that God has prepared to us by studying the wisdom of man. His great wisdom doesn’t come from us. Think about this, how can a creation have more wisdom than the One who created it? The creation is never greater than the Creator. All mankind is subject to physical death. Think about what that means. There have been many people who have achieved greatness in this world but once their life is done, there is no more wisdom being created through them. For instance, we all know who Thomas Edison is. He was an awesome inventor. But his inventions ceased when he died. So it would be fair to say that even though we have a history of him, his wisdom ceased the day he passed. But as we’ve seen, God is everlasting, He’s eternal, so His wisdom never ends and is so far above human wisdom is unfathomable. He never ever changes and because God never ever changes, we can live a life that stands strong no matter what comes. We have a future and a hope and are blessed because God never ever changes!
