Titus 2:1-5

Introduction

The ship of the Home is at Sea without and Anchor or a Sail.

Ø       In 1960 80% of children grew up in homes where both father and mother were present.  Today less than 50% do.

Ø       More than 1 million children will experience the pain of divorce this year.

Ø       There has been a 400% increase in child abuse in the past 10 years.

Ø       Every day 2,795 teenage girls get pregnant.

Ø       Every day in America 1,106 of those girls, kill their unborn babies through abortion.

Ø       Every 78 seconds a teenager in America attempts suicide.

Ø       66% of our teenagers acknowledge that they have used one or more illegal drugs by the time they graduate from high school.

Ø       In 1960, hard-core pornography was a $5-10 million industry.  Today it is a $8.5-10 billion industry.  There are more porno outlets in America than there are McDonald restaurants.

Ø       1 in 3 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be sexually molested by the time they are 16.

Ø       Some where in America a woman is raped every 46 seconds and every 9 seconds a woman is being beaten.

Ø       An unborn baby is murdered every 20 seconds, 3 babies per minute, 180 babies/hour; 4000/day.

Promise Keepers - What is the role of Women?

The reason this is a question is because Promise Keepers calls us back to the Biblical pattern.

1A.      The Legacy She is to Leave  (3-4)

1B.       A Woman is to be Holy  (3a)

Women are to have the aura (fragrance) of holiness

Ø       Comes from the priest when he would worship God would have the smell of the incense

2B.       A Woman is to be Honest  (3b)

“Slander” = This is the word we get the word Satan from.

Gossip gets worst with age

Gossip is a form of insanity.  You say, “you know me I don’t gossip but…”  When we do something and do not know what we are doing that is insanity.

3B.       A Woman is to be Healthy  (3c)

Controlled only by the Holy Spirit

4B.       A Woman is to be Helpful  (3d-4a)

Who are the teachers of young women today?

Ø       Oprah?

Ø       Universities?

Ø       The soaps?

God’s plan is for the older women to model and mentor the younger women.

2A.      The Love She is to Learn  (4b)

1B.       A Woman is to Love her Children

We love our children when we protect them.

Ø       We need to teach girls to love their children before they are born.

We love our children when we tell them.

We love our children when we touch them

We love our children when we teach them

Ø       Right from wrong - this includes discipline

We love our children when we value them

(Psalms 127:3 NIV)  "Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him."

Ø       In the Bible, being childless was considered a curse.

Ø       The women in the Bible who were barren prayed to God - Sarah (Isaac); Elizabeth (John the Baptist); Hannah (Samuel)

Could it be we have aborted the child that would have discovered the cure to cancer or aids.

A father has influence on a child but a mother has the greatest impact.

2B.       A Woman is to Love her Husband

You can learn to love your husband

Ø       Behind any command of God is the power of God to accomplish it.

You love him when you fulfill your God-given role in the home…

3A.      The Life she is to Live  (5)

1B.       A Woman is to be Self-controlled  (5a)

Sober minded; intelligent

2B.       A Woman is to be Pure  (5b)

Pre-marital chastity and post-marital fidelity!

Ø       One man for one woman till death do you part

We are to teach our children purity at home!

Ø       Moms need to teach daughter - Fathers teach sons

If we applied the same logic to teenage car theft that we do to teenage sexuality we would have classes that teach our teens how to steal cars safely and without being caught.

3B.       A Woman is be Busy at Home  (5c)

Her first responsibility is to be a homemaker!

(1 Timothy 5:14 NIV)  "So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander."

She is to be the queen of the home

The bottom-line is does it help the family or hurt the family.

4B.       A Woman is to be Kind  (5d)

She is to be the heart of the home

5B.       A Woman is to be Submissive to her Husband  (5e)

This is not subjugation

(Ephesians 5:22-23 NIV)  "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. {23} For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior."

This has nothing to do with equality

Application

Any woman that refuses God’s plan will have difficulty…

With God

With your husband

Ø       She will become competitor not completor

With your children

Ø       In order to be in authority you must first be under authority!

With yourself

Ø       Your deepest needs will not be met in any other way.

If God’s Word and Way is not the best - then how did we get where we are today?
