Love God
Introduction
Welcome it is great to have you joining us today @ Oasis. We pray that you have had a week filled with God’s love and blessing.
Today we begin the theme of: “Love God Love People” and over this month we are believing that we will get a greater understanding of: love on a personal level, our love for God and our love for others.
Lets pray.
Open in prayer:
Father we thank you, that You love us and that You would send Your Son to restore our relationship with You. We thank You that you are hear with us. We pray that our minds would be alert and our hearts open to receive all that You have for us today. Father bless Your people in Jesus name. Amen
Today our focus is on loving God because He first loved us.
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Can you open your bibles to Psalm 23? Let us take a bit of time here as we learn about Gods love for us through these scriptures.
A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Now that we have read this scripture let us take a closer look at it
starting in verse 1.
Point 1 (LOVING GOD)
(1) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
(Total Guidance)
It is when we understand Gods love for us, that we will allow Him to lead and guide us.
You would call this Total Guidance.
You could call this being miss guided and left wanting.
Under the total guidance of God as our shepherd he makes us secure and in need of nothing.
Did he not say in
12 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?
13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away!
Point 2 (LOVING GOD)
(2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
(Total Prosperity)
Accepting Gods love gives me the promise that we can trust in Him.
26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
“We have to accept it”
Point 3 (LOVING GOD)
(2) He leads me beside the still waters.
(Total Peace)
You might be right in the middle of the greatest struggle of your life.
We have heard about David in the past and how he sinned towards God and the pressure that he was under.
When David repented peace came to him.
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,
15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,
16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
Point 4 (LOVING GOD)
(3) He restores my soul.
(Total Healing)
By His stipes we are healed. It was the love of the Father that sent His Son to Earth that we might be saved and made whole.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Point 5 (LOVING GOD)
(3) He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
(Total Righteousness)
Christ is our righteousness, when we accept Christ as our saviour than it is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in us.
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Point 6 (LOVING GOD)
(4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
(Total Deliverance)
1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
4 Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you.
Point 7 (LOVING GOD)
(4) For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
(5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
(Total Joy)
The love of God gives us Total Joy, in the middle of our circumstances.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Point 8 (LOVING GOD)
(5) You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
(Total Power)(Dunimous Power)
Others to come into relationship with God
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Point 9 (LOVING GOD)
(6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
(Total Life)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16 (LOVING GOD)
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
When we understand God's love for us it is than that we can walk in
the freedom of it, LOVING GOD AND LOVING PEOPLE
