CIT: The Lamb is worthy to be praised.
CIS: Proper worship of Jesus demands a physical, musical, proclamation, and creational response.
SO: Application: I want the chapel to begin to more fully express there praise to God.
Introduction:
The world we live in can be tough.
Worship is a tool that God has given us to help us to refocus our attentions to the right things.
Phil Wickham’s Canons was song that was meaningful to me when my walk with God was getting serious
sing
The world around us is still attracted to worship but they are a bit confused.
We dont actually worship the moon and stars.
Today lets talk about who we worship

Context:

John
Genre:
Apocalyptic - tracts for hard times, 200 - 200, we have other examples of these
Symbolic Language
Don’t get lost in these. There is not always a allegorical connection between the details.
Pay attention when John explains the symbols and stick to that rigidly.
Focus on dialoge
Insider Language
OT passages are where many of the images come from especially the apocalyptic prophets: Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah
Written to encourage a persecuted people.
Often Psuedonimic
Revelation is not however.
Prophetic - There is an already/not yet element; The message must relate to the original audience and was couched in their world.
Covid Vaccine = Mark of the Beast?
Epistle - letter written to a church(es)
Late first-century, during persectuion
Encourage the church that even though in the near term the State would prevail over the church, nothing could stop God’s advance over the earth

The Physical Response of the Throne Room Worshipers (v.8)

Revelation 5:8 ESV
8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
EXP:
We enter at the throne of God.
The lamb who had been slain receives the scroll that no one else could take and opens it.
Is 53:7 - The Suffering Servant Prophesied
The living creatures and elders fall down prostrate in worship
They hold musical instruments and bowls full of believers prayers.

Conclusion: The first act of their worship was a physical one.

Dover Chap, do you worship the Lord physically/ “in truth”?

The Song of Worship They Sang (V.9-10)

Revelation 5:9–10 ESV
9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Exp:
The next step of the worship is song.
They sang about his power to open the scroll no one else can.
Our God can do what nobody/thing has the power to do.
They sang about how he paid the price of the ransom of the entire world by his blood.
They sang about their new status at priests of God and how that in the future they would reign.
Jesus sacrifice made it so that all believers are priests with a mission to the world and a connection to Christ. They no longer needed an human intermediary at the temple or sanctuary.

Conclusion: The second act of worship was a song of praise: the lamb was worthy and he had given them a new status and mission.

Dover Chap, do you worship the Lord with your songs?

The Proclamation They Spoke (v.11-12)

Revelation 5:11–12 ESV
11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
Exp:
Next the audience at the throne of God proclaimed God’s worth!
There’s a ton of them who appear in this verse
God is worthy of it all.
Note here, its not saying that we are worthy of it all

Conclusion: They proclaimed Jesus’ worthiness in all things!

Dover Chapel, is God worthy of all areas/areanas/days of the weeks/musical choices/nextflix series/entertainment choices you make? Are you proclaim God’s worth around you?

The Praise of all creation! (v.13-14)

Exp
Everything/person in heaven on earth, in the sea, and under the earth worships God.
We are actually joining in on this spiritual truth that doesn’t seem like it reality sometimes.
In the end, this spiritual reality will be visible for all to see.

Are you ready for the day?
