This Afternoon, we honor the life of Betty Kennamer. I know that many of you could stand where i am standing and do a much better job than I. I am thankful for this opportunity. We all have unique experiences with this precious soul, and for the foreseeable future we will all relive fond memories of our time with her.
My Memories will begin around 1995, when my mother married Barry. Though she had been in my life for some time before that, it was then that i was truly blessed with a “Mimi”. I have precious memories of day trips that we would take. One specifically comes to mind. John Ryan and I had recently become interested in Skateboarding. Though she had no idea what we were talking about, or even what tricks we would try to perform, she gladly went with us to the newly opened skate park in guntersville. She then watched as two young boys traversed ramps, and rails believing that they could compete with the pros. She wasn’t worried about translating what we were saying, or even understanding what we were doing. Her Joy was tethered to ours. It was in moments like these that Her Joy was found. Time being with and supporting Her grandchildren in whatever endeavor they pursued!

and for the Christian, this is not a day of fear or sadness. This is a day of Joy for those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus. Why? Because we know that in Jesus:
The Fear of Death has been eliminated
The Fear of Death has been eliminated
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Sting of Death has been eradicated

8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Experience of Death has been illuminated

The scriptures tell us what earthly Death will look like for the Christian. The Bible shines a light on a subject that tends to live more in the darkness of our world. The Bible Says of the poor sore covered man names lazarus who sat at the city gate:
22 One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
15 The death of his faithful ones is valuable in the Lord’s sight.
13 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
19 “Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”
We Rejoice this afternoon. We rejoice in the Hope of eternal life. We rejoice knowing that Betty surrendered her life to Jesus! Do you have confidence that you will one day join her in Heaven? Commit your life to Jesus, and you too can have the Joy of this eternal Life!
