INTRODUCTION

There are two essential questions

What is the origin of man?

What is the destiny of man?

Five Alternative Views

Atheistic Evolution

“There are only two possibilities of how life arose; one is spontaneous generation arising to evolution.

The other is supernatural creative act of God, there is no third possibility.

Spontaneous generation, that life arose from no living matter, was scientifically disproved 120 years ago by Louis Pasture and others.

Than leaves us with only one possible conclusion that life arose by a supernatural creative act of God.

I will not accept that philosophically.

Because I do not want to believe in God.

Therefore, I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible.”

Nothing times nobody equals everything

Theistic Evolution - God used evolution…

The main difference between the theistic evolutionists and the atheistic evolutionists is the tat the former believe that God, specifically the God of the Bible, is providentially guiding the evolutionary process, while the latter attribute the identical developments to chance.

Harry Rimmer, a great scientist who loved the Lord Jesus, once said, "To try to believe in both evolution and the Bible is like trying to ride two horses going in different directions."

\\ The Gap Theory

The gap theory states that between Genesis 1:1 & 2 the was a long but indeterminate period in which the destruction of an original world and the unfolding of the geological ages can be located.

This view was first set forth by Thomas Chalmers in the early 1800s and has been held at least in part by A.W. Pink, Harry Rimmer, C.I. Scofield, C.S. Lewis, M.R. DeHaan, Donald Grey Barnhouse, and Francis Schaeffer.

Progressive Creations

God created the world directly and deliberately, that is, without leaving anything to “chance,” but that He did it over long periods of time that correspond roughly to the geological ages.

Moreover this creation is still going on.

Progressive creationism attempts to show how current scientific theories of the origins of the universe and the formation of the earth match the revelation in Genesis.

Proponents include Robert C. Newman, Herman J. Eckelmann, Davis A. Young, and J.M. Boice.

Six-Day Creationism

Creationist view the Genesis account as involving six literal days, hold to a young earth (maximum age 12,000 years), and explains the fossil record as having been formed by the great flood in Genesis 6.

Proponents include the Creation Research Society, headed by Walter Lammerts and the Institute for Creation Research, with Henry Morris and Duane Gish.

The Meaning of the Days (1:5, 8, 13)

How the word is used.

*Day* /yom/; Twenty-four hour period of time

Can refer to the daylight only (1:3)

Can be an indefinite period of time, an age, or an epoch

*Isaiah 4:1* And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, "We will eat our own food and wear our own apparel; only let us be called by your name, To take away our reproach."

Can be an inclusive period of time

*Genesis 2:4* This /is /the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

How the word should be understood in this context.

*Day*, a twenty-four hour period

Because this is the plain meaning of the word

“so the evening and the morning…”

Because of the problems with geological ages

Ø       Day 3 - Plant life (1:11-13)

Ø       Day 4 - Sun and moon  (1:14-19)

Plants cannot live without the sun light

Ø       Day 5 - Animal insect life  (1:20-23)

Plants and animals co-dependant

Because the scriptures support this view

*Exodus 20:11* For /in /six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that /is /in them, and rested the seventh day.

Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Ø       The Sabbath is a 24 hour day

Ø       The work of creation is complete.

The Miracle of the Days

God created the world miraculously!

Evolution Defined - “Analogy would leave me to believe that all animals and plants are descended from one prototype.

All organisms start from a common origin, from some such low and intermediate forms both animals and plants may have been developed.

All the organic things which have lived upon the earth may have been descended from some one primordial form.”

(Darwin, /The Origin of the Species/ p. 523)

A woman called her husband THEORY not DEARY because he did not work - EVOLUTION is a THEORY because it does not WORK..

Scientific Reasons

The problem of origins

Ø       Life only arises from life.

The law of biogenesis

From generation to generation parent molecules produced daughters; their numbers multiplied; today their descendants are on the earth; they are the molecules called DNA which lie in the center of every living cell....

What concrete evidence supports this remarkable theory of the origin of life?

\\ The problem of species mutation

Ø       Organism will bring forth after its kind (Gen 1:11-12)

*According to its kind* appears 10 times

Ø       Mutation not transmutation - variety of roses but they are still roses.

Ø       If evolution is true, one species has to evolve into another species.

You would expect to find transitional forms.

NOT ONE HAS BEEN FOUND!

*Sir Fred Hoyle*, an internationally recognized astronomer and mathematician, and one of Great Britain's foremost scientist, conducted a computerized study of the chance that the first living cell could have developed by a random process in some primordial ooze, and he calculated that the chances of random chemical shuffling in some primordial soup that could produce the complex basic enzymes of just one cell of life, is only one in ten to the fortieth power.

That is, there is only one chance in ten followed by forty zeros that life just happened.

Hoyle went on to say, "There is about as much chance of evolution being true as a hurricane going through a junk yard and building a Boeing 747."

The problem of the Second Law of Thermodynamics

Ø       The amount of organization or complexity in an isolated system must decrease with time.

In other words, random events produce chaos, not order.

Things move in a downward trend.

Ø       The evolutionists will say that it is not true in our observable time you need more time.

Ø       Drop parts of a car from 5,000 feet would they become a car?

No, the evolutionist would say you need to drop them from 30, 000 feet.

They will just spread farther!

The problem of fossil record - No intermediate forms ever found.

R. Leach*, ("Nature") said:  "Missing links in the sequence of fossil evidence were a worry to Darwin.

He felt sure they would eventually turn up, but they are still missing and seem likely to remain so."
