SF764 - THE MAKING OF AN ARK BUILDER (Genesis 6 5-7 7)
Genesis 6:1-10
INTRODUCTION
The “sons of God” and the “daughters of men” (6:1-4)
These “sons of God,” then, appear to be angels who left their own habitation, came down to earth, and cohabited with the daughters of men.
The state of mankind (6:5-7)
God’s grace and Noah (6:8)
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Every Christian wants to be used by God
God mightily used Noah.
Ø Against great opposition
Ø Against great odds
Ø Against great obstacles
Noah pictures the NT Church ‑ for he was used to proclaim God’s means for the salvation of mankind.
Ø Being in the ark in Noah's day is like being in Christ today.
Ø If we are to be used by God to proclaim His means of salvation to our world we must become Ark builders.
In order to do so we must....
1A. Know God (6:8-9)
"found grace" = grace ‑ salvation, forgiven
Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
1B. A personal relationship - “know” = intimate, personal knowledge
2B. A transforming relationship - “in the power of His resurrection”
"Just man" = Justified ‑ entered fully into salvation of God
3B. A demanding relationship - “the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to his death”
Genesis 6:9a perfect in his "generation" - testimony
Genesis 6:9a “he walked with God” - discipleship
2A. Love God (Genesis 8:20; Matthew 22:37-40)
1B. We celebrate our love for God through worship. (Matthew 22:37-38)
2B. We demonstrate our love for God through service. (Matthew 22:39-40)
3A. Believe God (Genesis 6:22)
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
1B. We must believe that God is who He says He is.
“Do you believe?” was one of Jesus’ favorite questions.
Acts 16:31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
2B. We must believe that God will do what He said he would do.
4A. Trust God (7:1-5)
1B. Faith is required if we are to please God.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2B. Faith is being sure that God will keep His promises.
Hebrews 6:17-18 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
3B. Faith is being certain that God told the truth.
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
5A. Obey God (7:7)
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
1B. Obedience is the proof of our love.
2B. Obedience is the product of our love.
3B. Obedience is pleasant not painful
APPLICATION
GRACE needs Ark builders!
We need adults and students who will bring their friend and neighbors in.
We desperately need some Ark builders.
Who will share their faith and bring people to the Lord and His church.
Who will not be satisfied with a few, but will push beyond the limits to reach more than ever before.
We need Ark builders!
Will you be an Ark builder?
Do you know God personally?
Do you love God passionately?
Do you believe God absolutely?
Do you trust God fully?
Are you obeying completely?
