Genesis 10:8-10a

Introduction

Genesis is the seedbed for all theology and prophecy.

We have seen Christ portrayed.

Now we see the Anti-Christ portrayed.

Christ                          Anti-Christ

Lamb                           Beast

Man of God                 Man of Sin

Seed of woman                        Seed of the serpent

Ruler God’s city         Ruler of the City of Satan

Babylon is the consummation of all evil!

Let’s look at…

The ruler of Babylon

The rise of Babylon

The ruin of Babylon

1A.      The Ruler of Babylon

1B.       His arrogance  (8-9a)

“Nimrod” = “the rebel”

(2 Thessalonians 2:8 NIV)  "And then the lawless one will be revealed, …."

“Before the Lord” = “against the Lord”

2B.       His abilities  (8-9)

“mighty” = 3x pictures Satan’s superman

(2 Thessalonians 2:9 NIV)  "The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,"

3B.       His authority  (9)

“Hunter” = he hunted for the souls of men.

Christ seeks to save

Nimrod and the Anti-Christ seek to subjugate men.

4B.       His ambition  (10)

He wanted to rule all men – the first mention of a kingdom in the Bible.

Dominance has always been Satan’s desire.

Ø       Human history began with man’s sin and will end with the man of sin.

2A.      The Rise of Babylon

1B.       Their disobedience  (11:1-2)

They gathered when they should have scatter  (9:1)

Ø       They sought a centralization of power.

Ø       God knew the dangers of centralized power.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Anti-Christ will centralize power.

Ø       We see the beginnings of centralization today.

European currency

1920: 1/100 people worked for the government

Today: 1/6 work for the government

Ø       Less and less personal freedom

2B.       Their depravity  (11:3-4)

The tower was a temple

Ø       On top was a astrological temple

“a tower and its top with the heavens”

This was the beginning of astrology

Ø       Astrology is idolatry.  Seeking a “word” for the stars.

Ø       Astrology is detestable to God.

(Deuteronomy 18:9-12 NIV)  "When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. {10} Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, {11} or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.  {12} Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you."

(Revelation 17:5 NIV)  "This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

3B.       Their defiance  (11:3-4)

Everything they did was self-centered and self-serving.

“let us…”

The Humanist Prayer

Our brothers which are upon the earth.  Hallowed be our name, our kingdom come, our will be done, in heaven as it is on earth.  For ours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

3A.      The Ruin of Babylon

1B.       The coming of the Savior  (11:6-7A)

The coming of the Savior will end the reign of the Anti-Christ

2B.       The confusion of the speech  (11:7b)

They had everything in order until God removed their ability to communicate.

They had a false unity based on their work and their words.

3B.       The collapse of the system  (11:8-9)

(Psalms 127:1 NIV)  "Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain."

It may appear that the evil has the upper hand, but…(Revelation 18:1-4; 19:1-6)

Ø       The fall of Babylon brings the first Hallelujah in the Bible

Application

Choose sides carefully!
