Hebrews 11:24-26

Introduction

Moses faced an intimidating world.

He was 40 years old

He had been raised in the lap of luxury.

He was heir to a great but godless nation.

He had been educated in the best schools of Egypt.

Moses was used of God to change the destiny of an entire nation.

WHY?

Because Moses had something few people have – he had a fearless faith.

We live in an intimidating world.

We have been raised in the lap of luxury.

We are heirs to a great but godless nation.

We have been educated by the world.

How can we become men and women, boys and girls that God can use to change the destiny of an entire nation?

How can we develop a fearless faith like Moses?

By making the same types of decisions and commitments, Moses made.

Ø      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Worth.

Ø      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Values.

Ø      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Priorities.

1A.      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Worth.  (11:24)

1B.      The world says the greater the position the more important the person.

Moses had position

Moses had power

Moses had prestige

Moses had privilege

2B.      God says the greater the person the less important the position.

David was a shepherd but became the greatest king in Israel’s history.

Amos was a simple farmer but he became a great prophet.

Mary was a peasant girl but she gave birth to the Son of God.

God always seems to choose the unexpected to do the unbelievable.  (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)

If we are to develop a fearless faith, we must not allow the world to determine our worth.

2A.      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Values.  (11:25)

1B.      The world says if it feels good do it.

The fact of sin’s pleasure

Ø      The devil is too smart to go fishing without bait.

The folly of sin’s pleasure

Ø      The pleasure of sin is short-lived.  It lasts just long enough to get you hooked.

Ø      Like snow on water

"You can eat the Devil's corn but he will choke you on the cob."  R. G. Lee

2B.      God says if it is good do it.

Psalm 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

1 Timothy 6:18-19 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

It will cost you to value what God values.

2 Timothy 3:12 “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”

John 15:20 “A servant is not greater than his master.  If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you….”

3A.      Moses Refused to Allow the World to Determine His Priorities.  (11:26)

1B.      The world says it is what we possess that is important.

The land of Egypt was the wealthiest and greatest nation of the day.

Ø      Moses could have had it all.

Possession will not bring true satisfaction.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 “He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.”

Ø      Add up everything you have that money cannot buy and death cannot take away and you will know how rich you really are.

2B.      God says it is who that possesses us that is important.

We must count the cost

Esteeming, to consider, to esteem

We must consider both the temporal and the eternal

Ø      Moses knew that is was more important to be a son of God than a grandson of Pharaoh

Ø      He looked at the riches of Egypt

Position, pleasure, possessions

Ø      He looked at the riches of Eternity

Position - with Christ

Pleasure - pure and never ending

Possessions - everything is God's

We must look through the eyes of faith.

"He is not fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he    cannot loose."  Jim Elliot

Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Ø      The source of life – Jesus

Ø      The satisfaction of life – Jesus

Ø      The strength of life - Jesus

Ø      The salvation of our lives - Jesus

Ø      Fill in the blank..."for me to live is _________"

Application

Whom or what determines your worth?

Whom or what determines your values?

Whom or what possesses you?

If you really want to make a difference – you must develop a fearless faith.
