Hebrews 11:27-28

Introduction

Nothing is more important than pleasing God!

The way to please God is to believe God (Hebrews 11:6)

If you cannot believe Him how can you serve Him!

1 John 5:10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.

We live in a world that operates on compromise.

It seems if you want to accomplish anything, you must learn the art of compromise.

Politicians call it seeking a consensus.

There may be times when compromise is good and beneficial but in spiritual matters, compromise is deadly.

Moses was faced with the temptation to compromise his faith.

Our text presents a vivid picture of how Satan will try to get us to compromise our faith.

Egypt = land of sin and bondage, pictures sin.

Pharaoh = Satan who tries to keep us in the land of sin and bondage.

Moses = the person who believes God’s Word.

Pharaoh's four clever compromises

1A.      The Temptation to Compromise in the Matter of Salvation (Exodus 8:25)

1B.      Satan wants us to have religion without repentance.

Leaving Egypt pictures leaving sin

No repentance equals no salvation.

Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

2B.      Satan wants us to have religion without a relationship.

Moses had to leave Egypt to go to God!

Ø      God called them to a relationship.  (Exodus 19:3-4)

We have to leave sin and self and go to God.

Ø      Satan does not mind you going to church

Ø      Satan does not mind you turning over a new leaf.  In fact, he wants you to turn over a new leaf but not have new life.

Remember it was a religious crowd that crucified Jesus.

2A.      The Temptation to Compromise in the Matter of Sanctification (Exodus 8:28)

1B.      Pharaoh wanted to keep the Israelites close to Egypt.

He did not want them to separate themselves from Egypt.

He knew if he could keep them close, he could keep them captive.

2B.      Satan wants to keep us close to the world.

Satan will tell you not to go too far with your faith.

Ø      This amounts to spiritual fire insurance

If Satan cannot keep you from being saved he will try to keep you from being separated.

Ø      Satan wants you to have just enough religion to keep you from being happy in the world and just enough sin to keep him from being happy in Jesus

3B.      Jesus calls these Christians lukewarm.

Revelation 3:15-16 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I could wish you were cold or hot.  16So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

Ø      God wants you to be hot or cold.  Because of your witness!

We cannot reach the world because of the lukewarm Christians.

"Lukewarmness is the worst form of blasphemy, you are saying I love you God but you do not excite me much."  G. Campbell Morgan.

3A.      The Temptation to Compromise in the Matter of Soulwinning (Exodus 10:8-11)

1B.      Pharaoh tried to get the Israelites to leave their friends and families in Egypt.

Pharaoh knew they would not go far or stay gone long without their friends and families.

Pharaoh knew that the journey would loose its joy without their families.

Moses refused to go without everyone!

2B.      The devil will try to get you to leave your friends and family in the world.

God commands you to seek to take your family to heaven.

Genesis 7:1 Then the LORD said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household

Acts 16:31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Joshua 24:15 … But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Ø      If you cannot win your family to Christ who can.  We cannot win our families because we are camped just outside Egypt we are worldly.

God commands you to seek to take your friends to heaven.

Luke 14:23 …Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

One of these days it will be too late.  When will you be concerned?

4A.      The Temptation to Compromise in the Matter of Stewardship (Exodus 10:24-26)

1B.      Pharaoh wanted the Israelites to leave their material possessions in Egypt.

Pharaoh knew they would not have anything to give God if it was all tied up in Egypt.

Pharaoh knew that they would not go far from their treasurers.

2B.      Satan wants us to leave our material possessions in the world.

Satan knows that we will not have anything to give God if it is all tied up in the world.

Satan knows that where your treasure is that is where your heart will be.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

3B.      God wants to bless us through our material possessions.

Giving is an opportunity for us to receive God’s blessings

Malachi 3:8, 10 “Will a man rob God?  Yet you have robbed Me!  But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’  In tithes and offerings.  10Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.”

God does not need our money.

Psalms 50:10 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills.

Our giving is an indication of our spiritual maturity.

Ø      One of every six verses in the Gospels deals with money.

Ø      Sixteen of thirty-eight parables deal money.

Ø      You will never know victory and God's blessings until you get honest with God about your finances.

We are going, we are going all the way, and we are all going, everything we have is going.  (10:26)

Application

How did Moses do this?

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

Moses had his eyes on God

Ø      When you see the invisible, you will know the unknowable, and when you know the unknowable, you will do the impossible.

Moses feared God more than he feared man.

Ø      Do you why you are afraid of anything you are not afraid of God.

Ø      When you fear God, you do not have to fear anything else.

The man who kneels before God can stand before anything.

Faith is the eyes and ears of the soul.

God made you see Him!

You cannot reason your way to God if you could some of us would be eliminated.

You can have faith because He has promised it to you.
