Daniel 9:24

Introduction

The Middle East is the center of attention.

Israel is the chief player in world history.

1A.      The Period

Seventy weeks = 490 years

Seventy sevens = seventy weeks of years.

This 490 years is the period of time that God will deal with Israel.

2A.      The People  (24)

The prophecy involves Israel – the Jews

The Jews are the people of destiny

Israel is the center of the world

(Ezekiel 5:5 NKJV)  ""Thus says the Lord GOD: 'This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations and the countries all around her."

Geographic center of the world

Spiritual center of the world

Ø       Moses to Jesus!

Prophetic center of the world

Ø       Israel’s complete history told in Scriptures

Military center of the world

Ø       Last great battle will be fought in Israel

Diplomatic center of the world

Ø       Peace will come to the world when peace comes to Jerusalem.

Glory center of the world

Ø       Jesus will rule from Jerusalem

3A.      The Place  (24)

The Holy City is Jerusalem

It is the most important city in the world!

(Zechariah 12:2-3 NKJV)  "Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.  {3} "And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it."

(Zechariah 14:16 NKJV)  "And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King . . ."

4A.      The Purpose  (24)

Six-fold purpose…

1B.       Israel’s will no longer reject her Messiah

“To finish the transgression”

2B.       Israel will receive her Messiah

“To make and end of sins.”

(Romans 11:26-27 NKJV)  "And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; {27} For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.""

3B.       Israel will be reconciled to God.

“To make reconciliation for iniquity

(2 Corinthians 5:18 NKJV)  "Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,"

4B.       Israel will be made righteous.

“To bring in everlasting righteousness”

(Romans 10:4 NKJV)  "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes."

5B.       God will fulfill His revelation.

“To seal up vision and prophecy.”

6B.       Jesus will reign forever!

“To anoint the Most Holy”

5A.      The Program  (25-27)

1B.       The commencement of the count  (25a)

“Restore and rebuild Jerusalem.”

Artaxerxes commanded Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem  (Nehemiah 2:1-8)

Ø       In 445 BC  (secular history)

Ø       In Nissan, the first month of the Jewish year; (Nehemiah 2) = March 14, 445 BC

2B.       The construction of the city  (25b)

Seven weeks – 49 years

3B.       The coming of the Christ  (25c)

Sixty two weeks – 434 + 49 = 483 years

483 years from the command to rebuild to the coming of the Messiah

Ø       Prophetic year = 360 days = 173,880 days

Jesus began His public ministry in 29 AD

(Luke 3:1 NKJV)  "Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, . . ."

Three Passovers later Jesus made His triumphant entry

Ø       April 6, 32 AD

Ø       This is exactly 173,880 days!

4B.       The crucifixion of the Christ  (26a)

(Isaiah 53:8 NKJV)  "He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation?  For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken."

He would die for His people.

5B.       The conquest of the city  (26b)

The prince that shall come is the anti-Christ

Ø       The Romans destroyed Jerusalem

Ø       Out of the Roman empire will come the anti-Christ

The city and the temple were destroyed 70 AD

(Luke 21:6 NKJV)  "These things which you see; the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down."

There will be a continuing of wars

(Matthew 24:6 NKJV)  "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars.  See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet."

6B.       The calling to the church  (26)

When Jesus died, the Israel’s prophetic clock paused.

The time of the Gentiles began

(Romans 11:25 NKJV)  "For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in."

What is the fullness of the Gentiles?

Ø       The completion of the body of Christ

Ø       This time will end with the rapture

Israel’s clock will begin again

7B.       The completion of the count  (27)

The anti-Christ confirms a covenant with Israel for seven years

The anti-Christ breaks the covenant after 3 ½ years

Ø       Anti-Christ will set himself up as God.

(2 Thessalonians 2:4 NKJV)  "who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

(Daniel 12:1 NKJV)  "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time.  And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book."

8B.       The consummation of all things  (27c)

The anti-Christ will be destroyed

(Revelation 19:20 NKJV)  "Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.  These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone."

Application

Do not follow a loser –Have FAITH in God!
