Faith Itself

2 Peter 1:1 NASB95

1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

All who have been born into the family of God has received their faith from God.

We all share the same “kind” of faith.

Ephesians 4:4–6 NASB95

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

We have all received faith the same way.

“By the righteousness of Jesus Christ.”

He is “Our God and Savior!”

Divine Power

2 Peter 1:3–4 NASB95

3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Divine Nature

2 Peter 1:4 NASB95

4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

We have been granted everything that we need to live an abundant life in Christ and a Godly life before the Heavenly Father. These things have been granted to us by His divine power.

This is the very reason we should seek diligently to possess in an ever-increasing volume the qualities of the divine nature.

These assets grow from knowledge of Christ.

2 Peter 1:8 NASB95

8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

These assets will make you an overcomer.

2 Peter 1:10–11 NASB95

10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

The Assets of faith

2 Peter 1:5–6 NASB95

5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,

You must add these things.

God supplies His divine power and in Christ we are partakers of His divine nature.

Self Control

Before we can ever start to really follow Christ, we must deny our self.

We will never be an overcomer until we can learn to overcome our self.

We can be the greatest assistant to our enemy or enemies.

You must be able to make yourself do what is right.

You must be able to say to to what is wrong.

The Christian life is not about us.

We are commanded to lose our life for His sake - His cause - His purpose - His glory.
