Acts 2:1-4

Introduction

Series Background

The Promise of the Spirit

The Advent of the Spirit

The Fullness of the Spirit

The Presence of the Spirit

Facts about the presence of the Spirit

John 14:16-18 (NKJV) 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.  18I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

His presence is personal  (16a)

His presence is permanent  (16b)

His presence is particular  (17)

His presence is promised  (18)

Three distinct ministries of the Spirit presence in our lives.

1A.      He Reveals the Person of Christ

1B.       To the believer

John 15:26 (NKJV) 26“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

2B.       Through the believer

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control.

3B.       To the non-believer

Ephesians 4:17-18 (NKJV) 17This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;

Ephesians 1:17-18 (NKJV) 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

2A.      He Reveals the Purpose of Christ

1B.       For each believer

Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV) 1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Acts 1:8 (NKJV) 8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

2B.       For the world

2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV) 9The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (NKJV) 2For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”  Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

3A.      He Reveals the Power of Christ

1B.       For salvation

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

John 6:37-40 (NKJV) 37All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

2B.       For sanctification

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV) 18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

John 16:8-11 (NKJV) 8And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
