Revelation 6:1, 17

INTRODUCTION

Series of Three Judgments in Revelation

Under the seals’ judgement - the world is ruined by man

Under the trumpet judgements - the world is ruled by Satan

Under the vial judgements - the world is rescued by God

This is the beginning of the Great Tribulation

Matthew 24:21-22 (NKJV) 21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

Jeremiah 30:6-7 (NKJV) 6Ask now, and see, Whether a man is ever in labor with child?  So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins Like a woman in labor, And all faces turned pale?  7Alas!  For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.

Ø       Great pain - Great fear - Centered on Israel - Israel will be delivered

Daniel 12:1 (NKJV) 1“At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time.  And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book.

Background

Scroll - deed to earth; seals broken

This will begin shortly after the rapture of the church.

Understand the symbols

Four creatures represent creation, all the earth.

1A.      THE FIRST SEAL - THE WHITE HORSE – PHILOSOPHICAL DOMINION  (6:1-2)

The white horse is symbolic of peaceful victory.

This horse represents the philosophical and intellectual war waged against God and His people.

The bow is symbolic of the power and extent of this judgement.

Turn to 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12

Secular Humanism is paving the way for this first judgement.

Ø       Evolution - we are a result of blind chance.

Ø       Situation ethics – no absolute right or wrong.

Ø       Moral freedom – if it feels good do it.

Ø       Self-sufficiency – no accountability

Ø       Sexual permissiveness – anything goes

Ø       Anti-Christian bias

Ø       Socialism – Government control of the economy and property.

Ø       One world government – we are global citizens

Ø       Death education – abortion, euthanasia

Ø       Human destiny – we are an end to ourselves, your own happiness is all that matters.

2A.      THE SECOND SEAL – THE RED HORSE –INTERNATIONAL DIVISION  (6:3-4)

The red horse is symbolic of war/bloodshed.

Matthew 24:6-7 (NKJV) 6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.

This will be war, as the world has never seen before!

All restraint will be removed

3A.      THE THIRD SEAL – THE BLACK HORSE – PHYSICAL DEPRIVATION (6:5-6)

The black horse is symbolic of death.

The scales are symbolic of a shortage of food.

Famine follows war!

A quart of wheat = one meal!

Ø       ½ of the people in the world suffer from hunger.

Ø       10,000 die each day from malnutrition

4A.      THE FOURTH SEAL - THE PALE HORSE – ETERNAL DEVASTATION AND DEATH (7-8)

The pale (green) horse is symbolic of decay.

Ø       Death will receive the body

Ø       Hades = the abode of the soul

Ø       There is no hiding from God!

The cumulative effect of the four horseman is that 1/4 of the people on earth will die!  (1.5 billion)

Ø       The beast of the earth = the rat, they carry 35 known diseases. Bubonic plague - ruin food supply.

Ø       Germ warfare!

5A.      THE FIFTH SEAL – DIVINE DETERMINATION (9-11)

God has determined that He is going to avenge the blood of His saints

Many will be saved out of the Tribulation, they will be killed because of their faith!

Ø       Those who believe will refuse the mark and will be killed (beheaded)

They are under the altar because they have laid down their lives on the altar as the supreme sacrifice

6A.      THE SIXTH SEAL – CATASTROPHIC DISRUPTION  (12-17)

The cause of the disruption (12-14)

All of nature is disrupted

Everything that men depend on will be shaken
