Ecclesiastes 3:1-13, John 5:24

Introduction

Obituary

Background

I did not know Mr. Singleton well.

However, I know Martha and Jennifer and have had the pleasure of meeting the family.

I know of their love and respect for their father.

I want to share with you today from two of Mr. Singleton’s favorite Bible passages.

1A.      God’s Timing is Perfect  (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

Truth is God has allotted all the time we need to live a full life and serve Him.

Take time to work--it is the price of success
Take time to think--it is the source of power.
Take time to play--it is the secret of youth.
Take time to read--it is the foundation of knowledge.
Take time to laugh--it is the music of the soul.
Take time to be courteous--it is the work of a gentleman.
Take time to pray--it is the Christian's vital breath.

-- Vern McLellan, The Complete Book of Practical Proverbs and Wacky Wit (Wheaton: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 1996).

2A.      God’s Assignments are always Rewarding  (Ecclesiastes 3:9-13)

God assigns each one his own unique task.  (3:9-10)

God blesses our labor.  (3:11)

Ø       He blesses it with quality.

Ø       He blesses it with longevity.

3A.      God’s Greatest Gift is Eternal Life  (John 5:24)

John 5:24 (NKJV) 24“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
