Peter’s Second Epistle
To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
We have received faith from God.
We have not received it from man, but from the Heavenly father.
Receiving Christ, we were born again into the family of God.
This new birth is of the Spirit, it is from above.
Peter speaks of God’s divine power and our becoming a partaker of His divine nature and our escape from the corruption that belongs to the sinful nature.
Our very nature has been regenerated.
Romans 8 - the indwelling Holy Spirit
John, speaking of Jesus, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit

We have,
“everything pertaining to life and godliness.”
Upon the foundation of our Faith we are to grow and increase in the spiritual assets needed by our faith to enable us to be overcomers by enduring to the end.
Peter - “Apply all diligence” 2 Peter 1:5-7
2 Peter 1:5–7 NASB95
Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
Peter uses a literary device / method called sorites
First on the list is Moral excellence and/or virtue followed by other qualities which, in fact, are themselves, virtues.
Peter, writing to Christians undergoing persecutions, trials, and suffering, exhorts them to be diligent to ever be adding these qualities to their life.
The Value of these Assets

make certain about His calling and choosing you;

Peter speaks to perseverance in His first epistle by reminding us who we are; what we have been given; the purpose of our trials; and the results of our faith
1 Peter 1:3–9 NASB95
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
“There’s a reason that the road is long - it takes some time to make your courage strong!” (Need to Breathe)
Psalm 34:19 NASB95
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
