1 Corinthians 2:1–16 KJV 1900
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
We have been studying the Book of Ephesians on Wednesday nights.
Learned: Mystery is something that has yet to be revealed.
When we study the Word of God we find that it is really a Book of Mysteries that God is wanting, waiting to reveal to His people!
Job 12:22 KJV 1900
22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
Daniel 2:22 KJV 1900
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, And the light dwelleth with him.
Matthew 13:11 KJV 1900
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Ephesians 1:9 KJV 1900
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
Ephesians 3:3 KJV 1900
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Ephesians 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Ephesians 3:9 KJV 1900
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
Colossians 1:26–27 KJV 1900
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Here is what I want you to understand: We are all on this journey of discovery.
Our life in Jesus is a giant scavenger hunt, mystery novel to discover what God wants to reveal to us!
Series of revelations of who He is and how that revelation affects our daily lives as:
individuals
family unit
church
The church
Caveat: Doctrine can and will never change.
If in your journey of revelation you receive a “word” contrary to the Word, it is NOT of God!
For example:
Any revelation of God outside of Deuteronomy 6:4 - God is one is a damnable doctrine
Any revelation leads you from holiness is a doctrine of damnation
But so much of God is unknown and it should be our mission to figure Him out!
Isaiah 55:8–9 KJV 1900
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are my ways higher than your ways, And my thoughts than your thoughts.
But as we showed you in the previous passages, God wants to reveal himself to us!
Second caveat: We can’t become so consumed with the next mystery we seek nothing but revelation.
We don’t seek revelation, we seek to be closer to Jesus - to be more like Him!
We have to be careful because:
2 Corinthians 11:13–15 KJV 1900
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Don’t get so caught up in the pursuit of the next revelation that you find yourself being lead astray!
Hebrews 13:2 KJV 1900
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Interesting the that word angel here is all encompassing, making no distinction between the physical, heavenly or demonic!
Biblically:
angelic host of heaven that fulfill the purpose of God by worship, war or carry messages
pastor’s are messenger angels in the book of Revelation
fallen angels - demonic
This is why John told us
1 John 4:1 KJV 1900
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Bishop Morgan: angel with gifts in his hands appears in his hotel room
He is about to receive this gift when an elder calls and tells him, whatever is in your room is not of God!
Before his eyes, the angel becomes demonic.
Mat. 12:39, Mat. 16:4, Lk. 11:29 and Mk. 8:12 tell us that it is a wicked and perverted generation that seeks after signs.
So rather than looking for revelation, I am looking to be closer to Jesus and the closer I get to Him the more I understand Him!
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV 1900
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Paul is dealing with behavior in Five Fold Ministry and Church Leadership in verses 1-15
1 Timothy 3:15 KJV 1900
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Godliness: the process of being God like...
I want to want to live my life in pursuit of God!
One revelatory moment after the next…
Colossians 1:26–27 KJV 1900
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
