Genesis 3:16-24

Introduction

Numbers 32:23 (NASB) 23 "But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.

Adam and Eve faced the consequences of their sin.

Indeed all of creation suffers because of sin.

Romans 8:22 (NASB) 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

Last week we looked at the legacy of sin, today we will examine the curse of God on sin.

1A.      God Judges Eve (3:16)

1B.      The sorrow

Childbirth is the area of a woman’s greatest fulfillment.

This can also refer to continued pain children can bring there parents.

Proverbs 29:15 (NASB) 15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.

2B.      The subservience

The headship that God ordained is replaced by the tyranny of sinful man.

Ephesians 5:23 (NASB) 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

This is coupled with the woman’s rebellion toward man.

2A.      God Judges Adam (3:17-19)

1B.      Unrewarding toil (3:17-18)

Man will labor hard with little to show for it.

Job 14:1 (NASB) 1 "Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.

2B.      Unrelenting terror (3:19)

From that day forward the fact of death hung over man.

Romans 5:12 (NASB) 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—

3A.      God Judges All Men (3:22-24)

1B.      Sin keeps us from life (3:22-23))

John 10:10 (NASB) 10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

2B.      Sin keeps us from God (3:24)

Isaiah 59:2 (NASB) 2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

3B.      Only the blood of Christ can open the way to God.

Romans 5:9 (NASB) 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
