sf1028 - Praying For The Lost (Romans 10 1)
Romans 10:1-2
Introduction
Do you pray for the lost? Should we pray for the lost? How should we pray for the lost?
1A. Motive – Why We Should Pray for the Lost
1B. Because God has commanded us to pray for the lost. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
To fail to pray would be a sin (1 Samuel 12:23)
2B. Because of man’s spiritual condition
Man is a sinner by nature and practice. (Romans 3:23; 5:12)
There is nothing man can do to save himself (Matthew 5:48; Isaiah 64:6)
Man will never seek God on his own (Romans 3:11)
Man cannot discern spiritual things. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Man is guilty before God (James 2:10).
3B. Because only God can save man
Salvation if from the Lord (Jonah 2:9)
Jesus is the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12; John 14:6)
Salvation requires God to move on man in a supernatural way (John 3:3; 6:44)
4B. Because God is glorified by the salvation of sinners. (Psalm 86:8-10; Revelation 7:9-10)
5B. Because God has ordained prayer as a means to salvation (James 5:16; Matthew 17:21)
2A. Method – How Should We Pray For The Lost?
Ask God to:
1B. Stay His hand of judgment (Ezekiel 18:4; Revelation 21:8; Romans 6:23)
2B. Send someone to them with the gospel (Romans 10:17)
3B. Rescue them from the kingdom of darkness and bring them into the kingdom of His Son (Colossians 1:12-14)
4B. Give them ears to hear the truth (Luke 8:8; Romans 11:29).
5B. Give them eyes to see the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4-6; Acts 26:18).
6B. Open their hearts to respond to the gospel (Acts 16:14)
7B. Reveal their sin and lost condition. (Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:2-3; Isaiah 59:2)
8B. Make them alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:1, 5)
9B. Save them by His grace (Ephesians 2:4-5)
10B. Remove their heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 11:19-20)
11B. Humble them (Psalm 18:27; James 4:6)
12B. Grant them genuine repentance (2 Timothy 2:25; Acts 11:18; 2 Corinthians 7:10)
13B. Grant them saving faith (John 6:65; Ephesians 2:8-9)
