Revelation 11:15–19 ESV
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.
In Rev 4 they worshipped the Creator
In Rev 5 they worshipped the Redeemer
Here they worship the Conquerer
They fall prostrate- meaning they fall face down in worship. They are ushering in the Kingdom of God. Notice though they one who is and who was, but it’s missing the normal who is to come. This is signaling the fact the he is currently arriving.
Then we see the ark of the convenant which is within God’s temple never to be lost again. OT when the ark was present the Israelites were guaranteed the victory.
Ch11-19 are pretty much one flowing stream. This is the coming and the playing out of the end.
Ch 12 The women and the dragon
Revelation 12:1–6 ESV
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
This is the story of Jesus Christ. The term great sign hows that is past tense and is reviewing the coming of Jesus as redemption. The women is Israel as we see being clothed in the sun-wrapped in Jesus’ redepmtive plan.
John 8:12 ESV
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The moon- in relation to Joseph’s dream
The twelve stars indicating the 12 tribes of Israel.
The great red dragon- In the bible the dragon always refers to Satan
We see this in
Revelation 12:9 ESV
And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
The color red-which usually symbolizes blood-typically Christ’s blood, os not sign of his murderous nature. Jesus’s blood was to give life—Satan’s is to take life.
The 7 heads represent an exaggerated display of false wisdom. 10 horns represents completeness of power. Satan’s temporary power over the Earth.
7 Diadems Signifies his temporary authority.
A 1/3 of the stars shows the destruction he is enacting.
Male Child is Jesus
The women fled represents God’s people fleeing to the mountains during the 1260/half of the tribulation
Revelation 12:7–17 ESV
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.
The war in Heaven, This symbolizes when Satan was cast out of heaven and unto the Earth. Also a parrellel symbol of Satan having Access in Heaven to accuse God’s chosen such as he did with Job.
Satan is attempting to battle against believes with guilt of past mistakes and to overwhelm them with their failures in order to paralyze them from progress in the future.
V11 God lays out his plans for us to evade those schemes and continue in boldness. Since our power has nothing to do with us than our success isn’t determined by us either.
The women given wings—God’s people being able to hide themselves in the wilderness and God’s protection of them.
Satan wages war against God’s people. A times, times, and half a time is the duration of the persecution.
Revelation 13:1 ESV
And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads.
We have the first beast in Ch 13. You have an attempt to replicate the trinity. Some scholars call it the unholy Trinity. The dragon and two beasts.
This beast is known as the one world government. more specifically the antichrist and his governmental authority.
Revelation 13:2 ESV
And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority.
The beast person is as cruel and vicious as the wild beast. who will gian economic and politcal power.
Revelation 13:3 ESV
One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.
mortal wound-Seems as God allows Satan and the antichrist to mimic the resurrection of Christ. Thus further deceiving the world around him. It is likely be that this mortal wound won’t kill the antiChrist, but will give evidence of the deception of Satan.
Revelation 13:4–7 ESV
And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?” And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,
This is the separation from the deceived to the Followers of christ and Satan will wage war against the followers. Satan conquering them isn’t necessarily turning them from faith, but rather during this time many martyrs will be made.
Revelation 13:8–10 ESV
and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. If anyone has an ear, let him hear: If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.
