Session 1: A Call To Courage
GROUP DISCUSSION:
Gathering At Base Camp
Who are some of the most courageous people you’ve known? What did you most admire about them?
--JNS, SIBU
Confidence in their skills and
in the team members...

2. How do you define courage?

Courage, courageous:
“stand up in the face of
adversity and never waver .”
to waver: a feeling of hesitancy or uncertainty

3. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NAS)

13 Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done in love.
Be on the alert,

27.56 γρηγορέωb: (a figurative extension of meaning of γρηγορέωa ‘to stay awake,’ 23.72) to be in continuous readiness and alertness to learn—‘to be alert, be watchful, be vigilant.’ γρηγορεῖτε,

‘be alert, stand fast in the faith’ 1 Cor 16:13.1
Stand Firm in the faith,
Act like men, be strong
ἀνδρίζεσθε, κραταιοῦσθε
‘be brave (courageous), be strong’
In κραταιόομαι must be understood in a non-physical sense. The implication is that the believer is to be sufficiently strong as to be able to dominate any evil influence.1
--to become strong psychologically—‘to become strong, powerful.’ ‘to become strengthened through his Spirit in the inner person’ Eph 3:161
16 that He would grant you, according to the
riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power
through His Spirit in the inner man,
Phil 1: 27-28 (NAS)
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of
the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come
and see you or remain absent, I will hear of
you that you are standing firm in one spirit,
with one mind striving together for the faith
of the gospel;
28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—
which is a sign of destruction for them, but of
salvation for you, and that too, from God.

4. In what ways do men need courage for daily living?

5. What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?
